Pass the torch! The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are attracting some of the world’s biggest names.
The 2024 Olympics Opening Ceremony kicked off this summer's games on a high note, with Lady Gaga and Celine Dion performing as celebrities like Ariana Grande and Tom Cruise watched from the sidelines.
In contrast to past ceremonies, this year’s broke from the traditional stadium parade and took place on Paris’s River Seine. In this monumental event, it was the first time the Opening Ceremony was held outside of a stadium in the history of the modern Olympic Games. Despite the rainy weather, excitement was in the air as Lady Gaga took to the stage and Celine Dion stunned with her emotional return to performing. This was the 56-year-old superstar's first public performance in years since being diagnosed with a rare neurological disease known as Stiff Person Syndrome.
Dubbed the queen of French pop, Aya Nakamura had an unforgettable performance during the Olympics Opening Ceremony as well. She is the most-listened to French singer in the world. The 29-year-old pop star has had 25 top 10 singles in France, while her 2018 album, Nakamura, has over 1 billion streams on Spotify.
Regarding the Olympic torch, which spent the past two months crossing France, it has been carried by a variety of different celebrities, including former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, former World Cup winner Thierry Henry, former NBA player Tony Parker, French skier Perrine Laffont, Formula One driver Charles Leclerc, BMX world champion Matthias Dandois, former US football player Megan Rapinoe, actress Salma Hayek, K-Pop singer Jin, actress Halle Berry, and singer Olivia Ruiz. American rapper Snoop Dogg carried the torch through the streets of Saint-Denis, home to the Olympic Stadium and Aquatics Centre on its final journey.
