More than a year after announcing his sixth studio album, Drake has finally released Certified Lover Boy. The record includes 21 songs with a variety of featured artists like Jay-Z, Future, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Young Thug, 21 Savage, Ty Dolla $ign, Kid Cudi, Rick Ross, Lil Baby, Nicki Minaj, Project Pat, and more. However, the rapper also named a number of famous artists in the writing credits on his record that listeners may not expect.

Paul McCartney and John Lennon are credited on the album's opening track "Champagne Poetry" which samples The Beatles' song "Michelle." The track “Love All” samples the Notorious B.I.G.'s “Life After Death Intro," while “Way 2 Sexy” features an interpolation and sample of Right Said Fred's “I’m Too Sexy.” "Papi's Home" borrows from Montell Jordan's "Daddy's Home," and R. Kelly, who is currently standing trial for 22 federal counts of child pornography, kidnapping, forced labor, and more, received a co-lyricist credit on "TSU."

Drake announced the album in August 2020 with the release of "Laugh Now Cry Later." Though the song is not featured on Certified Lover Boy, at the time, he used its drop to announce that his album would be coming out in January 2021. However, due to an ACL injury that required him to have surgery, its release was postponed until the rapper's recovery finished.
