Everything We Know About 'Marty Supreme'
Timothée Chalamet stars in the forthcoming, highly-anticipated film, where he plays a sports legend.
Timothée Chalamet is all the buzz lately for his roles in forthcoming films, especially Josh Safdie's Marty Supreme.
The actor, perhaps known best for his roles in Dune and Call Me By Your Name, is starring in the sports period drama that's loosely inspired by professional table tennis player Marty Reisman's rise. (Read: This is not a biopic.) Chalamet is also co-producing the picture alongside cult-favorite indie label A24.
Reisman was born in the 1930s in Manhattan and learned the beauty of the sport in the Lower East Side. His humble beginnings led him to compete for bets and prizes, which then helped him climb towards becoming the U.S. men's singles champion. This earned him the nickname "The Wizard of Table Tennis." His career spanned six decades, and his journey was documented in his 1974 memoir The Money Player: The Confessions of America's Greatest Table Tennis Player and Hustler.
While plot details remain shrouded in mystery, Safdie reportedly plans on exploring Reisman's rise in the sporting world through a more fictionalized take. He's bringing it to life with an all-star cast including Gwyneth Paltrow; Fran Drescher; Tyler, the Creator; and Odessa A'zion, to name a few. This marks Safdie's directorial return, following his critically acclaimed 2019 film Uncut Gems.
The first images from the set emerged in September 2024 featuring Chalamet like we've never seen him before, transformed by a moustache, new haircut, and steel-rimmed glasses. Recently leaked images show steamy moment on set, where Chalamet and co-star Paltrow's chacaters passionately kiss in a tunnel at Central Park.
There's no official release date for Marty Supreme yet, but it's no doubt a highly anticipated film for fans of Chalamet and Safdie alike. At least "Chalamaniacs" can count on seeing the actor in A Complete Unknown, set to release late December.
