Potential for Season 3
Since Tell Me Lies has yet to be formally confirmed for season three, fans of the hit show may have to play the waiting game for new episodes. Season 2 debuted on Hulu with two new episodes on September 4th, which was two years removed from the series premiere. Hulu has remained as tight-lipped on the subject of season three as Stephen was about his relationship with Macy in Season 1. So if that and its previous release schedule are any indication, viewers may have to wait until 2026 for a third season.
Show creator Meaghan Oppenheimer hinted in a Deadline interview back in August at where the story might go and what she’d like to achieve. “I would say I think there needs to be blood. Not literal blood. I think that a lot of people are rightfully very distraught at the end of this season, and I think some revenge needs to happen, or justice. There’s some justice that needs to be served. Just keeping it as exciting and surprising. And what I liked about this season was that it felt, to me at least, more emotionally vulnerable. And it kind of got at my gut in a different way this season, and it hit some sadder notes for me, which I liked. And so I think keeping the vulnerability that we found this season along with all of the toxic excitement and anxiety.”
In an interview with Variety, Oppenheimer divulged the show may return with a time jump. She suggests that the next season will likely focus more on offering a deeper look at how the characters’ lives have unraveled post-college. The dramatic wedding fallout, unresolved tension between Lucy and Stephen, and Stephen's manipulative schemes are all likely to play a major role. Additionally, the shocking events surrounding Wrigley's brother Drew and the fate of the friend group are set to remain central plotlines. Oppenheimer has teased even more surprises in store, potentially involving new revelations and character developments.
The dark dynamics and emotional turmoil between the characters is what has fans clamoring for more, as they hope a third season will be the lexicon to some of the series’ most pressing enigmas.
