Lady Gaga reveals how it felt to have to leave her character and what it was like to "be her again."
The House of Gucci movie is buzzing! With a team of talented actors and a story that takes us backstage at one of the most acclaimed fashion houses in the world, being a part of this grandiose project can be life-changing for an artist, and that's exactly what happened to Lady Gaga. The singer and actress, who plays Patrizia Reggiani, recently revealed that she even felt like her character did and that the best moment in her life was “being a Gucci."
Last month, Gaga revealed in an interview with British Vogue that she had lived as the character for a year and a half, using an Italian accent for nine months. But, his connection with Reggiani went far beyond that.
"I was in a very complicated situation in my life when this script came to me," revealed the actress, in an interview with the New York Times. The project was impactful for Gaga and, in the interview, she even admitted that she had never had a better experience with a director, referring to Ridley Scott.
When asked how she felt about leaving the character, Gaga responds, "To be honest, I was really ready to leave her. [Patrizia] is an extremely complicated person and when you're living in survival mode all the time—and she was always in survival mode—it creates a feeling of constant trauma.” According to the actress, when she returned to Los Angeles, she threw away her cigarettes, stopped drinking, and cleaned up her life. “It was killing me because it was killing her."
According to Gaga, it's very exciting to be yourself again. “I play with Ridley all the time, but I actually experienced some kind of attachment panic when I left the set, I missed him so much,” he explained. "I felt like Patrizia did, a life without Gucci was not a life worth living."
So she reveals more about that feeling “the best moment in [Patrizia's] life was being Gucci, and I can tell you, as I finish this movie, that the best moment in my life was being Gucci. That's how art and life line up. Ridley's life is a masterpiece and you're lucky if you get to be a part of it.”
