Lady Gaga's new movie House of Gucci is the talk of the town these days as the film's long-awaited premiere draws nearer. The 35-year-old star will play Patrizia Reggiani, the ex-wife of Maurizio Gucci and the person responsible for commissioning his murder, in a story that shocked not only Italy but the entire world in the 1990s. In a recent interview, Gaga revealed that she went through an extreme acting method to bring the character to life.

When speaking British Vogue, the singer spoke candidly about her struggle to establish herself in the film industry and prove herself as a serious actress. Precisely for this reason, she prepared for her role by living as her character “for a year and a half," incorporating Reggiani's habits into her daily life, including her accent.

For that, she had to undergo a total transformation: she dyed her hair a dark brown and started taking pictures to capture everything that seemed beautiful to her—according to Gaga, Reggiani was obsessed with beauty. And it seems to have paid off. Her performance has already received positive reviews and her fans are looking forward to seeing it for themselves in theaters.

However, Gaga's dedication didn't prevent criticism from Reggiani herself. “I'm a bit irritated that Lady Gaga is playing me in Ridley Scott's new film without even having the courtesy and sensitivity to come and meet me,” Reggiani reveals in an interview with Ansa.  “It's not a question of money, because I'm not taking a single penny out of the movie. It's a matter of common sense and respect. Every good actor must first know the character he is going to play."

Based on the book Casa Gucci: A History of Glamour, Greed, Madness and Death, the cast also features Adam Driver, Jared Leto, Jeremy Irons, and Al Pacino as the rest of the Gucci family.

House of Gucci hits theaters on November 24.
