A Guide To Shawn Mendes' Style Evolution
With a new album on the way after a hiatus from touring, the Canadian singer is back in style.
Shawn Mendes, Canadian singer-songwriter, is no stranger to reintroducing himself. His upcoming fifth album is simply titled Shawn, a return to music for the first time in four years. This comes after his third album was titled Shawn Mendes. He's committed to continuing to find himself as both a person and an artist, which is seen through his sense of style as well as his music.
Mendes gained a following on Vine in 2013 after posting videos of him singing covers of popular songs. In 2014, he signed a record deal with Island Records and immediately began touring and growing a fanbase after being a part of MAGCON, a tour with fellow Vine social media stars. His hit songs like "Stitches," "Treat You Better" and "In My Blood" have been radio hits and summertime favorites for years. After several successful world tours, three Grammy nominations, and number-one albums, Mendes had to cancel the world tour for his album Wonder due to mental health struggles. It hasn't been announced yet if he will return to the stage to tour his upcoming album, but fans are hopeful.
Mendes' style has evolved as he has spent more time in Los Angeles and more time in the public eye. He became famous at a very young age, and his fashion taste has changed drastically from his first red carpet to his more recent Met Gala looks. From cargo pants and sneakers to tailored suits to beachy loose pants and cardigans, Mendes has settled into a laid-back, California style in recent years. His new album promises a more acoustic sound, with much of it being produced in studios that are immersed in nature, and his style reflects this sound.
Shawn will be released on October 18, 2024, and the first singles "Why Why Why" and "Isn't That Enough" will be released on Thursday, August 8, 2024. Revisit the musician's most iconic style moments with L'OFFICIEL's guide to his style evolution below.
