3 Key Trends From Gucci's Fall/Winter 2022 Show
Titled "Exquisite Gucci," this sporty-chic collaboration with Adidas presented a spectacular blend of retro glamor and vintage athleisure.
For their Fall/Winter 2022 show, Gucci partnered with Adidas to create the "Exquisite Gucci" collection. Combining sportswear with luxury fashion the brands reimagined what retro fashion and vintage athleisure looks could be. L'OFFICIEL takes a look at three of the key trends that came down Gucci's Milan runway.
Retro-Athleisure
Classic '80s tailoring coupled with the sporty codes of Adidas provided a fresh take on retro athleisure. Crisp blazers, polished shirts, and skinny ties were paired with relaxed-fit pants, sportswear coats, and stylish sneakers, creating a perfect balance of chic and streetwear that gently hinted at '90s hip-hop culture. A unique feature of these athleisure looks came in their color palette. The clever use of primary colors further emphasized the retro sportswear feel while the repetition of sporty stripes created cohesion amongst the looks.
The looks also hinted at gender fluidity, making a stunning yet impactful statement on genderless clothing. This truly gave the collection a feel of freedom and liberation, as it tore apart the stereotypes of masculine and feminine clothing, refashioning them into ultra-trendy looks that were perfectly in line with today's fashion culture.
Western Americana
Mingled in with retro athleisure stripes, sporty coats, classic tailoring, and a hint of preppy, yuppie-esque fashion, were doses of the currently trending Western Americana aesthetic. Western-style jackets, animal print fur, and wide, black statement belts embellished with rivets created a feel of the Old West while gently hinting at the edgy, rebelliousness of the '70s.
These little touches of the Old West added drama, whisking us back to the refreshing, youthful rebellion of yesteryear when times were a-changing. The mix of influences from our modern fashion culture paired perfectly well with the free-spirited '70s influences and the exaggerated silhouettes of the '80s. The unique, seamless mix of different styles and cultures made this collection a real stand out, particularly in how well it made retro stylings relevant to current fashion.
'80s Glamor
What's the '80s without a little sparkle? Dazzling, glittery suits with exaggerated shoulders, sensually elegant lace, and extravagant furs strutted down the runway taking us back to the glitz and glamor of the discotheques. These delicious looks were definitely a Studio 54 moment.
Bright retro hues like metallic, electric blue, mustard yellow, and royal purple added to the '70s-'80s retro-glam feel coupled with a funky zebra print fur and a striking, yellow-gold and black metallic, vertical stripe print suit. A contemporary twist to thees old-school themes and colors came with the clever styling choice of pairing the looks with sneakers and sleek, chic, sportswear-esque boots. The iconic codes of modern athleisure provided a renewed freshness to an old-school aesthetic.
