Kaia Gerber Opens Prada's Fall/Winter 2022 Show in Post-Pandemic Runway Return
With everyone from Kim Kardashian to digital creators Charli D'Amelio and Amelie Zilber in attendance, Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons' latest collection caters to today's hottest tastemakers.
The history of Prada and its global name recognition value make the Maison a favorite of long-standing fashion devotees, but Raf Simons and Miuccia Prada's designs are using that legacy to cater to the next generation of trendsetters.
Seated in the front row, names like Kim Kardashian and Chiara Ferragni stood out as some of the older, yet still as influential as ever, names (though it must be said, they nowhere near qualify as old). However, among them, some Gen-Z stars like TikTok's Charli D'Amelio, activist Amelie Zilber, and makeup guru Avani Gregg also took their seats for the show alongside 18-year-old Euphoria actress Storm Reid. Maybe will remember that during the early months of D'Amelio's rise to stardom, Prada was the first brand to invite her into the fashion set by having her attend its Fall/Winter 2020 show.
The same generational duality was spotted on the runway itself. 2000s it-girls Jessica Stam and Caroline Trentini shared the catwalk with today's hottest talents like Kendall Jenner, Hunter Schafer, and Kaia Gerber, whose appearance marks her return to the runway since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Prada's youthful counterpart Miu Miu has always been a beacon for the younger generations, what the co-designers create with this Fall/Winter 2022 collection is an aspirational line of clothing for the fans of these younger stars who have always looked up to more established figures like Kardashian and Ferragni. The collection combined eye-catching prints and colors with an uncompromising dedication to structured silhouettes. Wide shoulders offset feather detailing, while tailored all-black ensembles imbued the overall body of work with a more mature center.
