Converse Commemorates Keith Haring for Pride
Iconic artist Keith Haring's bold lines and unconventional iconography meet Converse's classic sneakers.
Drawing inspiration from the communities around him, Keith Haring began his prolific career using vacant subway billboards as a platform to stage his work. He found himself in the epicenter of the art world shortly after, participating in a myriad of solo and group exhibitions and mingling with the likes of Jean-Michel Basquiat and Yoko Ono. Combining social activism with street culture, Haring's graphic imagery became a symbol of the '80s.
Converse celebrates the progressive artist’s creative vision through a curated collection of footwear that embodies the essence of his signature style just in time for Pride. Embracing the urgent optimism and free-spirited nature of his work, the collection mirrors the relentless energy found in Haring's pieces. The artist's black and white illustrations—his celebrated personal signatures—embellish Converse icons: classic Chucks and the edgier and style-forward Run Star Hike bear bursts of red and striking black embroidery.
Perpetually using innovative silhouettes to create multiple meanings, the late Haring’s line drawings adorn the Converse canvases, remaining accessible and giving art back to the people.
