Must-See: Harry Styles Dressed as Ariel from 'The Little Mermaid'
The Internet can't get enough of these leaked pictures of the "Watermelon Sugar" singer in a mermaid costume.
He was once the frontrunner to play Prince Eric in the live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, but new leaked photos suggest that Harry Styles would have made a better fit as Ariel herself. In true form, the Internet managed to get its hands on a set of unused promo shots from the singer's Saturday Night Live appearance in 2019, featuring him dressed in a mermaid costume (shell bra, tail, and all) and red wig while holding a glass of champagne in one hand and a cigarette in his mouth. While the former L'OFFICIEL Hommes cover star is known for his gender-fluid fashion tendencies—lest we forget that Gucci dress moment—this foray into Disney princess cosplay proves that there is almost nothing he can't pull off.
In even truer form, it took only moments for the photos to spread and fans to make their own jokes and memes. Many even pointed out what seems like the singer's long-held love for the film. Not only does he have a tattoo of a mermaid on his forearm, but he was also once spotted wearing a t-shirt quoting one of the Disney princess's lines from the film: "But Daddy, I love him."
In 2019, reports that Styles was up for the role of Prince Eric in the upcoming remake shattered the Internet. However, shortly thereafter, sources confirmed that the singer had to turn down the role due to scheduling conflicts with his tour. While the tour was later postponed due to the coronavirus pandemic, during the unexpected hiatus, the "Adore You" artist wrapped production on his girlfriend Olivia Wilde's film Don't Worry Darling earlier this year. He has also been cast in the upcoming romance drama My Policeman which will also star The Crown's Emma Corrin.
