Jonathan Anderson Goes Minimalistic For Loewe Men's Spring/Summer 2025

During Men's Paris Fashion Week, the creative director introduced a new side of his design philosophy that came out in full force for the Loewe Men's Spring/Summer 2025 collection.

Titled "A Radical Act of Restraint," the latest Loewe Men's Spring/Summer 2025 collection refers to a sort of vow of containment, which in the case of creative director Jonathan Anderson, can be understood both in conceptual and aesthetic terms, as seen in the notable stylistic reductions in the collection. In fact, from the Loewe Men's Spring/Summer 2025 collection presentation, onlookers perceived a profound sense of minimalism marked by extremely clean, sharp looks. On his Instagram account, Anderson mentioned the works of all of the artists present in the setting of the fashion show, which was overall inspired by Susan Sontag's exhibition "Erotics of Art." Also at work within the collection are artistic pieces from the American photographer Peter Hujar, designer and painter Charles Rennie Mackintosh, Italian designer Carlo Scarpa, and American painter Paul Thek. Within the exhibition, everyday objects are elevated to the extraordinarya chair, a coat rack, an easel, and a photograph of a single shoe become monumental, along with a series of artifacts set in bronze.

The show opened with a series of models wearing slim-fit tailored suits and headpieces, characterized by long feathers positioned on a headband that veiled the face. Within the bounds of the collection, silhouettes appear either slim or relaxed, with wide sleeves and loose trousers. Tops with draped collars that emerge from tailored blazers, mother-of-pearl or metallic waistcoats, leather jackets without lapels, and trousers draped at the waist with the rectangular leather label positioned on the front are all on fantastical display. Degradé leather returns to the Loewe lookbook, this time with lamb coats that fade into ostrich leather. White poplin shirts that tighten at the waist with long belts, tight-fitting knitted summer polo shirts, and biker jackets that become cropped capes also make a notable appearance within the collection.

Simple, but not banal. Concise, but with engaging twists that still manage to catch viewers' attention. In the Loewe Spring/Summer 2025 collection, Jonathan Anderson makes the case that achieving minimalism is a complex action in itself. Although the great lovers of maximalism and Loewe's majestic, over-the-top designs may reminisce on older collections, there is no question that Anderson's work in this collection is a perfect example of how a creative director should pursue unique collections year after year—by remaining faithful to oneself and to the Maison.
