Bella Hadid's Morning Wellness Routine Has a Lot of Steps to It
L'OFFICIEL weighs in on the actual benefits of each of Hadid's wellness routines.
If you've been anywhere on socials over the past few years, it's hard to miss the plethora of celebrities and influencers sharing their latest beauty, health, and wellness tips. Many of us eagerly soak up these insider insights, finding joy in discovering new practices or taking comfort in the idea that we're privy to exclusive advice from those with access to the most elite regimens. However, for some, skepticism has started to creep in. It might even be caused by the tendency for some to downplay their regimens as "simple" or "easy" when, in reality, many regiments are highly specific.
Trust and credibility are becoming the ultimate currency in an era of information overload. In turn, celebrities and influencers alike are now being held to the advice they share, whether or not they claim particular benefits or simply give a glimpse into their daily routines.
In March, Bella Hadid shared a one-minute video of her morning wellness routine on TikTok. Though the Palestinian and Dutch supermodel is generally admired, her twelve-step regimen stirred up a mix of opinions. In particular, some questioned the necessity of taking fourteen different vitamins and supplements, while others pointed out the considerable cost involved, reportedly totaling $736, according to The Cut.
However, it's also no secret that over the past few years, Hadid has openly discussed her battle with Lyme disease, a chronic condition she was diagnosed with in 2012. While Lyme disease typically responds to a "short course of antibiotics," as per the American Medical Association, some patients continue to experience symptoms long after treatment. So, every now and then, Hadid shares glimpses of her journey, updating fans on her treatments and intermittently taking breaks from her modeling career to prioritize her health. Naturally, the comment section of her morning wellness routine sparked a debate: some defended her regimen, citing the unique challenges posed by her condition, while others reasoned that it seemed excessive even given her health issues.
3 Genestra Brands Herbal Tinctures
Bella Hadid kicks off the video by adding a few drops of three different herbal tinctures from Genestra Brands into a glass of water. These highly potent ingredients, like most herbal remedies, have various uses depending on the exact herb. However, the most common ones, like Echinacea, help relieve allergies and overall skin health, according to Very Well Health.
Gut Support
Secondly, Hadid drank a glass of Intelligence of Nature's Gut Support mixed with water. According to the brand's website, this science-backed supplement "supports healthy digestion, defends from toxins, and improves nutrient absorption."
Loads of Vitamins & Supplements
As mentioned earlier, the abundance of vitamins and supplements revealed by Hadid raised concerns and sparked debate on the Internet. Even experts like Beverly Hills Dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer weighed in on the matter, emphasizing the importance of moderation. "It's not so much a matter of supplements. A matter of more or less a normal, balanced daily diet routine." "Collagen or various green vegetables or algae, they're all bonuses if they're taken in moderation. But they're the bonus; it's not the main meal," Dr. Lancer added. To put more simply, overreliance on supplements may lead to neglecting essential nutrients obtained from whole foods, potentially compromising overall health in the long run. But, if they're simply added to a healthy diet, which is likely the case for Hadid, they shouldn't do any harm.
Green Juice
Then there's the breakout wellness trend of 2023. While Hadid didn't share which mixed greens she included in her green juice, a variety of nutrient-dense leafy greens such as spinach, kale, and arugula. Packed with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants, these greens offer numerous health benefits, including improved digestion, enhanced immune function, and increased energy levels.
Sea Moss Gel
Next up, Hadid was seen holding a bottle of sea moss gel, which she eventually liquified with water. According to Healthline, sea moss, which is rich in nutrients, has a few potential benefits including supporting immunity, promoting heart health, improving blood sugar, and supporting thyroid health.
Fulvic Detox
Though Hadid didn't detail how she incorporates fulvic acid into her routine, she briefly showed herself holding a bottle of Mother Earth Labs' Fulvic Detox. According to the brand's website, the product helps with gastrointestinal support or "to help soothe skin irritations and wound healing."
Liquid Ionic Trace Minerals... and a croissant, of course
The last drink Hadid incorporated was a few drops of liquid ionic trace minerals mixed with water. According to the National Institutes of Health, "Trace elements function primarily as catalysts in enzyme systems; some metallic ions, such as iron and copper, participate in oxidation-reduction reactions in energy metabolism. Iron, as a constituent of hemoglobin and myoglobin, also plays a vital role in the transport of oxygen." To put more simply, these liquid ionic trace minerals play essential roles in numerous bodily functions, such as enzyme activity and energy metabolism, which are crucial for maintaining overall health and well-being, especially for those with mineral deficiencies.
Crystal Manifestation
As a self-declared wellness advocate, Hadid also incorporates crystal manifestation into her wellness routine, harnessing the energy of crystals to enhance her spiritual and emotional well-being. Crystals have long been believed to possess various properties that can positively impact one's life, from promoting clarity and focus to fostering inner peace and balance. So, it's important to keep in mind that while many wellness advocates believe in the power of crystals, they do not hold magical healing powers, at least those that are backed by experts. It's mostly about harnessing their symbolic significance and the intention behind their use to cultivate a sense of mindfulness, intentionality, and connection with oneself and the universe.
Kin Euphorics Kin Spritz
In 2017, Bella Hadid co-founded Kin Euphorics, a non-alcoholic drinks and spirit brand, with Jen Batchelor, who also serves as CEO of the company. That said, it wasn't really that much of a surprise that Hadid was seen drinking a can of their Kin Spritz in her wellness video. But what do they do exactly? According to Batchelor in a 2021 interview with Who What Wear, nootropics, adaptogens, and functional herbs, which are ingredients found in Kin Euphorics' drinks, "replenish our dopamine, serotonin and GABA stores."
"We choose the best quality ingredient for the job with an emphasis on symbiotic function as opposed to the Western switchboard approach where the application is more linear. Instead of aspirin to turn off pain receptors, for example, it's rose hip to calm the central nervous system, which can lead to a sense of relaxation. These are applied sciences that are expressed more as a subtle art than a magic bullet," Batchelor assured.
Essential Oils
In the video, Hadid shared her extensive essential oil collection and applied a few of them to her wrists and neck. Though she featured a couple of different brands, her favorite ones seemed to be those from Whole Foods.
Natural essential oils are commonly used for their therapeutic properties, with each oil offering unique benefits. For example, peppermint oil is known for its potential pain relief properties, making it a popular choice for alleviating headaches or muscle tension. On the other hand, lavender oil is renowned for its calming and relaxing effects, making it a go-to option for promoting better sleep and reducing stress.
Sage
Toward the end of the TikTok video, Hadid revealed that burning sage was one of the last steps in her routine. This ancient practice, which is also known as smudging, holds various health benefits. According to Healthline, some of its benefits include supporting oral health, easing menopause symptoms, reducing blood sugar levels, supporting memory and brain health, and lowering low-density lipoprotein (aka "bad" cholesterol), to name a few. Plus, they're high in antioxidants and promote relaxation. In other words, though there are no absolute promises to burning sage, they surely wouldn't hurt, especially considering they're "generally considered safe," as per Healthline.
Journaling
It's no secret that though there are no physical health benefits to journaling, it provides a safe space for self-reflection, expressing emotions, and organizing one's thoughts. So, for those who consistently keep a journal, it serves as a valuable tool for fostering mental clarity, emotional well-being, and personal growth. In a 2022 interview with Bustle, Bella Hadid revealed that she had started keeping a journal. "For me, journaling for 30 minutes in the morning before I get on my phone helps with my anxiety. And then I do a gratitude meditation. Just to start my day and say, 'I’m grateful that I’m alive, I’m grateful for all that I have,'" Hadid noted.
