Each hotel has a rich history of its own, but some are more haunting than others. From mysterious deaths to ghostly hotel employees who never left their work, you never know what you may encounter during your stay. If you're a fan of ghost stories, then these haunted hotels might be the place for you.

The Hollywood Roosevelt

The Hollywood Roosevelt, Los Angeles

Located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in the heart of Los Angeles, The Hollywood Roosevelt dates back to Old Hollywood. The hotel's prime location has made it host to icons and stars like Marilyn Monroe, whose ghost is said to have appeared in mirrors at the hotel. Hollywoods star-studded and haunting past line the walls of The Hollywood Roosevelt, and if you're intrigued, it might be worth a visit.

La Fonda on the Plaza

Embodying luxury in the prime of Santa Fe, New Mexico, La Fonda on the Plaza is no stranger to ghostly encounters. The hotel's lengthy history makes its list of hauntings long and continuous. Reports of the ghosts of a judge shot in the lobby, a bride killed on her wedding night, and a businessman with a gambling obsession are a few of the many haunting appearances you may come across during your stay at La Fonda.

Hotel del Coronado

While you may recognize Hotel del Coronado from Marilyn Monroe's Some Like It Hot, the San Diego resort has a chilling history. In 1892, Kate Morgan checked in on Thanksgiving day. Her stay only lasted five days, however, and on the fifth day, Morgan took her own life. Her story can be read in the hotel's book Beautiful Stranger: The Ghost of Kate Morgan and the Hotel del Coronado. Since, hotel guests and employees have experienced a series of haunting flickers, breezes, scents, and sounds in the third-floor guestroom Morgan Kate stayed.

Omni Parker House

Omni Hotels & Resorts are no strangers to ghostly appearances throughout their locations. One of their most historic properties, Omni Parker House in Boston, Massachusetts, has been the highlight of these spookish encounters. Guests have reported hearing whisperings in their doorways and the ghost of hotelier Harvey Parker has been reportedly haunting the hotel for decades.

Hotel Monteleone

Hotel Monteleone, New Orleans

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana, Hotel Monteleone is known for its haunted history. Through generations of guests and staff, reports of ghosts have been a regular occurrence. Among the ghosts that line the halls of Hotel Monteleone are a man named William "Red" Wildemere, who died inside the hotel, and a toddler named Maurice Bergere. The spirits you encounter during your stay might be friendly, but the chilling feeling never leaves.

The Hotel Chelsea

The Hotel Chelsea was a beacon for artists from around the globe, from Mark Twain to Edie Sedgwick to Uma Thurman. The hotel is the second most haunted building in New York City and is home to a number of ghosts including an artist named Nadia who ran away from home, and Mary, a Titanic survivor who haunts the fifth floor. But perhaps it's most famous as the setting for Nancy Spungen's alleged murder by her boyfriend, Sex Pistols drummer Sid Vicious.

The Sagamore

The Sagamore Resort, Bolton Landing

The luxurious Sagamore Resort located on Lake George in upstate New York is filled with history. Upon the numerous sightings, a few memorable spirits that you may encounter are ghostly children on the golf course, a woman in white entering hotel rooms to frighten guests, and an arguing couple in the dining room.

Jekyll Island Club Resort

Jekyll Island Club Resort, Georgia

Hotel guests aren't the only ones staying at the Jekyll Island Resort. Ghosts and guests have been known to enjoy their stay side by side, and spirits are not afraid to take a sip of your coffee in the mornings. The most prominent ghost that haunts the resort is a founding member of the Jekyll Island Club, General Lloyd Aspinwall, who reportedly has been spotted walking the Riverfront Veranda named after the General himself.

The Driskill Hotel

The Driskill Hotel's haunted past is a list far too long. From a cowboy to a bride, spirits find their way through the ins and outs of the hotel in Austin, Texas, making the most of their ghostly appearance.

The Stanley Hotel

The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park

Also known as "The Shining" Hotel, The Stanley was the inspiration behind Stephen King's Overlook Hotel in his bestselling novel, The Shining. If you've seen the film, then you'll know exactly why this hotel has made a ghostly name for itself. From paranormal phenomena to ghost stories, The Stanley Hotel might be the best place for a good scare.

Cecil Hotel

Hotel Cecil, Los Angeles

The Cecil Hotel is one of L.A.'s most chillingly haunting buildings. Established in the early 1920s, the hotel has become a graveyard for 16 deaths. The Cecil Hotel also has ties to one of the most famous American murder mysteries, The Black Dhalia a.k.a. actress Elizabeth Short who allegedly stayed in the hotel a few days prior to her death. The Cecil Hotel was renamed in 2011 to Stay on Main, in an attempt to rebrand and step away from The Cecil's dark past.
