Flos' Newest Taccia Lamp Will Completely Transform Your Home Space

When it comes to home decor, there's quite simply no such thing as having too many home items. The latest home item to prove that point is Flos' latest edition of the classic Taccia table lamp, coming in a sleek matte white color. Taccia — originally designed in 1962 by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni — has been recognized as one of the most iconic symbols of Italian design since its creation. 

It was sparked by an innovative idea of turning a ceiling lamp upside down and has since gone through multiple technological updates and iterations throughout the years. One thing that remains though, is its timeless shape and high-quality craftsmanship, adding a refined touch to any elegant environment it's placed in.

"It is considered the Mercedes of lamps, a symbol of success, perhaps because its base looks like a column," Achille says of Taccia's design in a 1970 interview. "We certainly did not have prestige in mind when we designed it, we just wanted to create a cooling surface that would disperse heat."

It's as practical as it is stylish, with the column base initially meant to mirror a radiator and emphasize its function, dispersing heat from the lamp itself. That function has since been removed after the addition of the LED lighting source, however, the stylistic charm of the classic column design reference remains.

For the new Taccia Special Edition, finished in a luxurious matte white, while absolutely stunning in any space, it's still highly functional, coming with all the components of a lamp in white — save for the glass reflector. Sophisticated yet contemporary, elegant yet versatile, the total white look of the new Taccia lamp enhances the purity of the design.

One thing to know about the Matte White color? It has a unique ability to make any design appear abstract. This, combined with the accentuated shape, elevates the already iconic design to new heights — resulting in a masterpiece that deserves to be cherished in every living space.

Main changes throughout the years have led to the contemporary version of Taccia. Take for example in 2010, when Flos updated the lamp with a remote phosphor LED light source to replace the old incandescent bulb, crafted with the goal of conserving energy and emulating natural-looking lighting.

The updates continued to 2016, this time introducing a version of Taccia with a transparent plastic bowl reflector, in company with the traditional blown glass model. It was this year when new colorways and a smaller size first became introduced as well, allowing Taccia to be treasured in various types of room sizes. 

Flos continues to modernize its hero design with new enhancements, but still honors the original masterpiece, bringing forward something contemporary yet completely timeless.
