The Best Fashion Parties, Pop-Ups, and Shopping at Art Basel Miami 2021
From luxury store openings to art installations, a number of exciting fashion happenings have taken over the sunshine state.
After a year-long hiatus, Art Basel Miami opened its doors once again to art lovers and fashion enthusiasts alike. With a plethora of events lined up this past week, from private exhibitions to store front openings, we've rounded up the most headline-making pop-ups and parties that reinvigorated the artistic energy of the Design District.
Louis Vuitton Miami
Louis Vuitton announced a series of men's fashion events in Miami. In a three-day experience in the sunshine state, Miami saw the opening of the luxury house's first standalone men's store in the United States, as well as a live runway show that paid homage to the late Virgil Abloh, creative director for the maison's menswear line. Louis Vuitton also released new pieces of its Objets Nomades collection, on view at its Miami shops.
Dior Medallion Chair Exhibition
In an event that took place in the immersive Superblue, attendees were invited to discover the work of 17 various artists from all over the world that created their interpretations of one of its iconic pillars: the Medallion Chair. The Miami exhibition marks the U.S.-debut of the Dior Medallion Chair project after the the global launch at Salone in Milan earlier this year.
Tod's Miami Art Basel Dinner
Tod's kicked off Art Basel Miami with an intimate dinner at the Michelin-starred Forte dei Marmi to celebrate the Italian house's newly launched Mosiac Collection and American artist Willie Cole. Notable attendees included Karolina Kurkova, Archie Drury, HRH Princess Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz, Prince Sultan bin Fahad bin Nasser bin Abdulaziz, Stefano Tonchi, and many more.
Saint Laurent Rive Droite Dinner
Saint Laurent hosted one of Art Basel Miami's most luxe dinner parties in an undisclosed venue to celebrate artist Sho Shibuya. The guests in attendance included Hailey Biever, Zoë Kravitz, Olivia Rodrigo, and many more.
L'OFFICIEL & The Miami Edition Fete Art Basel
L'OFFICIEL and The Miami Edition kicked off Art Basel Miami in an evening celebrating the unification of fashion, art, and design, as well as a toast to cover star Léa Seydoux and artist Leo Villareal, who photographed her cover story. The guests in attendance included Fran Leibovitz, Anna Rothschild, Stefano Tonchi, and many more.
La Prairie Beach Club
La Prairie launched its first-ever beach club during Art Basel 2021 in Miami, converging art and skincare enthusiasts alike. Taking the center stage was La Prairie's White Caviar collection, hailing as one of the skincare giant's most luxurious products.
Loewe Miami Store Reopening
Just in time for Art Basel Miami 2021, Spanish luxury house Loewe reopened its Design District store with an all new concept, taking inspiration from the works of artist Sol LeWitt. With a mural by LeWitt commissioned by Paula Cooper Gallery, the colorful interior contrasts the glossy-black ceramic façade of the store.
Ganni x Jimena Montemayor Art Installation
Miami-based artist Jimena Montemayor is taking over the Ganni Miami store with her Wurms artworks. The artist will be present in-store on December 3 and 4 between 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. to customize visitors' Ganni Banner bags.
Balmain X Saype Miami Art Week Installation
Partnering with (RED) and Live Nation to honor World AIDS Day, Balmain kicked off Miami Art Week in a collaboration with French-Swiss artist Saype. Known for his large and environmentally friendly creations built with 100 percent biodegradable materials on canvasas of snow, grass, and sand, his work in Miami includes a massive temporary mural on Atlantic beach across from Balmain Pavilion.
Valentino's Party Collection at The Rubell Museum
Valentino's Party Collection celebrates our hopeful return to glamour and socializing. The brand also returned to The Rubell Museum this week with an exhibit displaying the festive garments and a cocktail hour with music by DJ Zack Bia and guests including Winston Duke, Camila Coelho, and Blaise French. In the spirit of partying, a second event was also held at Strawberry Moon at The Goodtime Hotel with the likes of Lori Harvey, Devon Windsor, Hannah Bronfman, and more.
TAG Heuer and Jimmy Butler Toast to Their Collaboration
Swiss luxury watchmaker TAG Heuer and Miami basketball star Jimmy Butler celebrated their new Special Edition Carrera Heuer 02T watch at a private, beachfront villa in Miami this week. Friends of Butler, the brand, and a roundup of celebs attended the event, including Madelyn Cline, Luis Fonsi, and Paulina Vega. Guests were greeted by a legion of Porsche cars (another collaborator of the brand) and were then invited to see the co-designed Tourbillon watch, complete with Butler’s personal logo and pink accents, a nod to his daughter.
Rimowa Launches 'As Seen By' Exhibition at Miami Art Basel
Rimowa has launched the second edition of its traveling ‘As Seen By’ exhibition at its Design District Store in Miami, on view from November 30 to December 5. The show features six new North America artists, as well as six global artists from the Paris exhibition, who have all reimagined Rimowa pieces using raw materials from the brand. The show was celebrated with both an in-store event and beachside after party.
Ruinart Champagne and David Shrigley Host An Art Show
Ruinart Champagne enlisted artist David Shrigley to create an exhibit inspired by the house. The resulting paintings, drawings, sculptures and ceramics were put on display at the Ruinart Lounge on Miami Beach this week, with guests including Hari Nef, Jacob Bixenman, and Justice Smith invited to come celebrate the launch. Invitees were able to view the larger-than-life worm installations and participate in immersive grape-stomping experiences at the event.
Fendi Invites Mabeo to Create Fendi Furniture
Fendi has enlisted Mabeo, a furniture and accessories brand from Botswana, to reimagine the Fendi brand in a different light. Peter Mabeo, the designer behind the namesake brand, brought craft techniques from across Botsawna into the project, titled Kompa, after Mabeo’s eldest craftsperson. The collection includes stools, chairs, cabinets, and more, as well as a new iteration of classic Peekaboo handbag, this time cast in metal.
Prada & YoungArts 40th Anniversary Cocktail Event
At the Prada Miami Design District store, artists and enthusiasts alike convened in celebration of Art Basel Miami to share stories from YoungArt's 40th birthday. Joining the event were YoungArts board members, donors, and notable guests such as Sarah Arison, Michi Jigarjian, Craig Robins, Paris Brosnan, Blake Gray, and many more.
