Take it From Kaia Gerber: The Chunky Belt Is Back

The resurgence of older styles from the '90s and early 2000s is hardly unexpected, given the cyclical nature of fashion. From the low-rise jean to Bayonetta glasses, we've seen it all, and more often than not, it's our beloved celebrities and influencers who spearhead the revival of particular styles.

Belts were a late sartorial addition for women compared to men, initially serving the same practical purpose. Back in the Middle Ages, women would hang items like purses and fans from their belts, kind of how we use bags today. Once handbags came into play and fashion changed with blouses and long skirts, belts transitioned from necessity to fashion accesories.

As fashion designers began to experiment more creatively with belts for stylistic expression, the accessory evolved into a diverse array of styles and patterns. One standout example was the chunky belt.

Chunky belts were prevalent in the '80s, '90s, and then the 2000s with oversized belt buckles, and they're now seeing a resurgence. After Kaia Gerber was seen on a night out styling a chunky belt, you might be wondering where you can get your own.

L'OFFICIEL has curated our favorite chunky belts to help you replicate her look.
