Model and musician Gabbriette Bechtel, who goes by the mononym Gabbriette, gained recognition after becoming the lead singer of the punk band Nasty Cherry. She has since made headlines after getting engaged to the frontman of English pop-rock band the 1975’s, Matty Healy. But who is the model/It girl?
Model
Bechtel has modeled since she graduated high school, appearing on the cover of magazines such as HoommeGirls, in campaigns for Ferragamo and Paris Texas, and walking the runway for labels such as Diesel. She is currently signed by IMG Models. The California native originally wanted to pursue dance and moved to Los Angeles after high school in hopes of becoming a ballet dancer.
Beauty Campaigns
Bechtel has a unique, recognizable look that often features grunge-inspired makeup reflective of the revival of indie sleaze in pop culture. Bechtel has released three EPs as part of the band Nasty Cherry, which features members Chloe Chaidez, Debbie Knox-Hewson, and Georgia Somary and was assembled by Charli XCX. The process was documented in a reality series known as I’m With the Band: Nasty Cherry.
“Charli reached out to me, and I worked with her a while ago, maybe two or three years ago on a music video, and I just kind of remember her being a light, and we kept in contact,” said Bechtel in a 2019 interview with Bazaar about the band. “I already had that trust with her.”
Bechtel is also referenced in Charli's song "360:" Call me Gabbriette, you're so inspired, she sings.
Fiancé
It’s unclear how Bechtel met her now fiance Matty Healy. However, there have been speculations that the couple was introduced by Charli XCX, who is engaged to the 1975 drummer, George Daniel. Bechtel and Healy were first spotted in September 2023 kissing in New York. On June 11, 2024, Bechtel confirmed their engagement on Instagram where she posted a photo of her unique black diamond engagement ring to her Instagram Story captioning it “MARRYING THE 1975 IS VERY BRAT,” in reference to the title of her friend Charli XCX’s new album, Brat.
