One of the most defining aspects of the house of Louis Vuitton will always be the art of traveling. We are no stranger to the iconic LV stamp across many quinntessential travel accessories, a logo full of history and meaning, but books are another object that frequently accompanies us everywhere with the seemingly magical ability to transport us to places which only exist in our dreams. For more than two decades, Louis Vuitton has published its own travel content, including a catalog of more than 100 titles with three of these collections focusing solely on travel: City Guide (travel guides), Travel Book (sketchbooks) and Fashion Eye (photography books).

Now, the long and fascinating history of Louis Vuitton, both its founder and the luxury brand, are being reexamined by Caroline Bongrand in her novel, Louis Vuitton, L'Audacieux (Louis Vuitton, The Daring). It is impossible to look at these travel books and not feel a deep wanderlust to explore the world, a fearless passion for discovering the new, which is exactly how Louis Vuitton lived every day of his life. Vuitton, at just fourteen years old, wearing clogs on his feet and without a penny to his name, left the family mill to pursue a path that would lead him to Paris. While living in the city of love and of lights, Vuitton discovered the world of trunks after apprenticing under the famous packer, Monsieur Maréchal. The rest was history.

From being a gifted craftsman to creating a travel and fashion empire founded in 1854, Vuitton was always characterized by his relentless determination and innate curiosity towards life. Bongrand mirrors Vuitton’s personality by crafting a dynamic, entertaining narrative of the founder’s life and his enduring legacy of luxury travel. Louis Vuitton, L'Audacieux will be published in French on October 15 while the English version will be released on November 15.
