A Complete Timeline of Sophia Bush and Ashlyn Harris's Relationship
The One Tree Hill actress and former soccer player have found love.
Sophia Bush, whom you may know as Brooke Davis if you were a fan of One Tree Hill during the aughts, recently came out as queer and is now dating former soccer star and US Women's National Team player Ashlyn Harris. In an interview with Glamour magazine, Bush addressed her recent divorce, her struggles during her marriage with her now ex-husband, and most importantly her internal battle with her sexuality.
"I’ve experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community, as an ally all of my life, that, as I came into myself, I already felt it was my home. I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling. And that feels pretty great," Bush wrote in her emotion-filled essay for the magazine.
She then discussed the time she first met Harris in 2019, when the soccer player was going through a divorce of her own at the time. She explains how they found a pillar of support in one another and confided in each other during their respective difficult periods in their lives.
"I finally feel like I can breathe. I don't think I can explain how profound that is. I feel like I was wearing a weighted vest for who knows how long," Bush said about finding the courage to come out at 41.

August 2019
As per Bush's essay in Glamour, the pair met in 2019 during a conference. She doesn't go into detail how what their first conversation was or how they bumped into each other, but she explains they met as Ashlyn was going through a divorce with her wife at the time, fellow soccer player Ali Krieger.
"She’d been such a kind ear for those of us who opened up about our problems during a shared weekend of speaking engagements at a fancy conference in Cannes, and soon it became clear that she needed our ears too," Bush wrote.
August 2023
After nearly calling off her wedding in June of 2022 and going through a series of fertility problems, Bush hit her breaking point in June 2023 and officially separated from Grant Hughes. In August she officially filed for divorce after a little over a year of marriage.
September 2023
The month following Bush's divorce from her husband, Harris filed for divorce from fellow UWNT player Krieger after the two were married for four years. The couple share two children, daughter Sloane and son Ocean.
October 2023
Although the pair didn't publicly announce their relationship, the two were seen on a few dates together and shared the same friend groups and social scene.
“After being friends for years, and running in the same social circles, Sophia and Ashlyn went out on their first dinner date a couple of weeks ago,” a source said to People.
November 2023
Harris addressed allegations that she cheated on Krieger during their marriage and stated that while the couple were going through a separation, the pair were advised to keep their split away from the public eye. This note that was posted to Instagram did not mention Bush.
"Let me be clear: I did not step out on my marriage," she wrote in the post. "I was always faithful in my marriage, if not always totally happy. Like in many partnerships, there was work and therapy and processing done. None of this happened on a whim. We spent the entire summer working to tackle the separation and divorce steps outlined for us by our therapists, lawyers, and our shared agency," read the post.
December 2023
Bush and Harris were seen at Art Basel together via a picture posted by Gallery owner Michelle Tillou.
March 2024
At the ‘Girls5Eva’ Premiere, Bush and Harris were having a ball over a few drinks with Bush's One Tree Hill co-star Hilarie Burton. The three reportedly “were together drinking and dancing” and later that night Bush and Harris were seen " pack on some PDA" at the after party, according to Us Weekly.
April 2024
Bush officially and publicly came out as queer and wrote her own story for her cover of Glamour. Following the cover story, Harris and Bush made their red carpet debut as a pair at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on April 27 in Washington, D.C.
