Meghan Markle Rumor Debunked as the New Face of Dior
The luxury fashion house denies the speculation.
Over the past couple of days, numerous news outlets such as TMZ and the Daily Mail have speculated that Meghan Markle is in talks with Dior for a new partnership — henceforth giving the Duchess of Sussex a new title: the Duchess of Dior. However, there's been confirmation from the luxury fashion house that all of the allegations and rumors are untrue, and there is no Dior partnership in the making.
A spokesperson for Dior spoke to WWD emphasizing that a deal was never in the works and "there have been no contract negotiations or recent contact with Markle."
Similarly, a rep for Sussexes told The Telegraph that the rumors are untrue.
The narrative first emerged following endless negative publicity, including the Sussexes ended Spotify partnership and the pushback from Prince Harry's lawsuit against the British tabloids, all on top of dealing with the continuously strained relationship with the royal family.
"There have been rumors for weeks that [Markle’s] about to sign a deal with Dior which has put the gossip mill into overdrive," an anonymous source told The Daily Mail on Sunday. "If she pulls that off, then no one will remember that her silly little podcast got canceled after one season."
The gossip continued to swirl as a clip from the crime drama film Anti-Social resurfaced of Markle playing a fashion model for a perfume ad.
Despite the rumors being debunked, there is truth to the Sussexes having worn Dior on numerous occasions over the years. Markle wore Dior in attendance at Queen Elizabeth's funeral and opted for a Dior outfit from the Haute Couture Spring/Summer 2022 collection when she attended the National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul’s Cathedral, London last year. Most recently, Prince Harry sported a bespoke Dior suit at King Charles's coronation in early May.
While Markle and Prince Harry will not be Dior ambassadors, the Maison already has quite the A-list roster including Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Lawrence, Anya Taylor-Joy, Natalie Portman, Blackpink's Jisoo, and Yara Shahidi.
