Beyoncé Shows Support for Meghan Markle after Oprah Interview
Following Meghan Markle and Prince Harry's revealing interview with Oprah, Beyoncé is sharing her words of encouragement for her friend the Duchess in a very public way. Rather than a quick text or Instagram comment or even a whole post, the Lemonade singer went one step further, dedicating an entire banner on the front of her website to Meghan. Beside a photo of the two women from The Lion King premiere in 2019, she writes, "Thank you Meghan for your courage and leadership. We are strengthened and inspired by you."
On Sunday, the Sussexes sat down for a heartbreaking interview with Oprah, revealing a number of shocking details from their lives before and after leaving the royal family. The couple opened up about unsettling questions from family members about "how dark" their son's skin would be once he was born, as well as the constant pressure from both the family and the media.
At point, Meghan admits that, after months of dogged attacks by the press, she was suicidal. "I just didn't want to be alive anymore," recalled the former actress. She went on the explain how, upon approaching the royals for permission to seek mental health treatment, she was rebuffed because of how it would reflect on the family.
Since the bombshell interview, other notable figures like tennis champion Serena Williams have also come out in support of the duchess. "Meghan Markle, my selfless friend, lives her life - and leads by example- with empathy and compassion. She teaches me every day what is means to be truly noble. Her words illustrate the pain and cruelty she's experienced," said Williams in an Instagram post. "I know first hand the sexism and racism institutions and the media use to vilify women and people of color to minimize us, to break us down and demonize us."
