2013: The First Meeting
Tom Ackerley and Margot Robbie first met in 2013 when they were working on Suite Française. This movie came out in 2014, and Ackerley was the third assistant director in the production, while Margot Robbie played Celine.
2014: Robbie and Ackerley Began Dating
While the relationship started as a secret, it may have started in January 2014 following the UK premiere of The Wolf of Wall Street. As they started dating, they moved in together with other roommates in a house in London. They were spotted attending New York Rangers games together.
This is the year they also started their LuckyChap Entertainment production company. Sophia Kerr and Josey McNamara were also co-founders. Since the group began, they've produced I, Tonya, Birds of Prey, and — the massively successful — Barbie, in 2023.
2016: Marriage
The two were married in Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia. They had a December wedding, which is summertime in New South Wales. Just like their relationship, the engagement and wedding were mostly a secret and a surprise until everything was finalized. Rather than going on a honeymoon, the two decided to keep working on I, Tonya, which Margot Robbie starred in and Ackerley produced. Once the filming was over, the two honeymooned in Tahiti. And the hard work paid off—the movie was Oscar-nominated for Best Actress in a Leading Role, Best Actress in a Supporting Role, and Best Achievement in Film Editing. Allison Janney took the award for Best Supporting Actress.
Since then, the two have quietly been in a committed relationship, getting a dog in 2018 and continuing to win awards for their film accomplishments around the world.
