1970s: From “Welcome Back, Kotter” (1975-1979) to “Saturday Night Fever” (1977) to “Grease” (1978), John Travolta’s feathered hair and attractive smile made him the epitome of the phrase, “Tall, dark, and handsome.”

Best known for his roles in Saturday Night Fever, Grease, and Urban Cowboy, John Travolta is one of the most admired actors of all time. He rose to fame in the 1970s when he starred in the television sitcom Welcome Back, Kotter before he rose to prominence for his '80s movies.

Travolta took some time off in the next decade but soon reemerged with his role in the cult classic, Pulp Fiction. In 1991, he married actress Kelly Preston who he met on the set of The Experts; however, she sadly passed away from breast cancer in 2020. More recently, Travolta appeared in a 2023 Super Bowl ad for T-Mobile paying homage to Grease. He is seen singing and dancing to "Summer Nights," the song he sang as Danny Zuko in 1978, alongside actors Zach Braff and Donald Faison.

To celebrate his birthday, we have compiled a variety of throwback images of Travolta's younger days as a film star, fashion icon, and heartthrob.
