There’s truly no one like Mick Jagger, Rolling Stones frontman, songwriter, actor—the list goes on and on. This man can and has done it all.

Naming themselves after one of the group’s favorite Muddy Waters songs, “Rollin’ Stone,” these rock stars rose to fame in the 1960s. They quickly became a crucial part of the counterculture movement through the messages they spread in their music, from “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” to “Gimme Shelter” to “Sympathy for the Devil.” Even before he became a household name, young Mick Jagger was particularly instrumental in producing the bad boy image of the band to contrast that of the wholesome Beatles.

Young Mick Jagger met Keith Richards at Wentworth Primary School and later studied finance at the London School of Economics, but moved in with guitarist Brian Jones while still in college and began to pursue music. The three started playing small gigs, and mostly covered songs by R&B artists like Chuck Berry and Bo Diddley before Jagger and Richards began to write songs for the group. Eventually, young Mick Jagger dropped out of school to pursue music full-time with the Stones and become one of the biggest rock bands in the world.

Among group success with the Rolling Stones, young Mick Jagger also dove into acting, starring in films such as Performance and Invocation of My Demon Brother. He later left the Rolling Stones in 1985 to start his solo career, releasing his own albums, She’s the Boss, Primitive Cool, Wandering Spirit, and Goddess in the Doorway. Young Mick Jagger even performed at Live Aid the same year as a one-man act. But in 1989, the Stones reunited again to release Steel Wheels, their comeback album. That same year, Jagger was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

In the past few years, Jagger hasn’t stopped performing, including getting back together with the Stones to sing at various events and making cameos on Saturday Night Live. Today, he continues to write and act. Here, L’OFFICIEL celebrates the rock-n-roll legends' 80th birthday by rounding up these photos of young Mick Jagger.
