Jack Harlow Protests Lil Nas X Snub and Performs ‘First Class’ with Brandy at BET Awards
He protested the Industry Baby's absence from the nominations list.
Rapper Jack Harlow attended the BET Awards last night. His outfit of choice? A t-shirt with Lil Nas X’s face and name on it. Why, you may ask? To support his fellow “Industry Baby,” collaborator Lil Nas X, who was apparently snubbed from receiving any nominations at the awards show.
In recent weeks, Lil Nas X has been outspoken about his lack of nominations. In a series of now-deleted tweets, Nas tweeted, “Thank you BET awards. an outstanding zero nominations again,” and “black excellence!” per Variety.
And a few days before the BET Awards, Nas dropped a new single with a clear message: “F*** BET.” His new single, “Late to Da Party,” features these explicit words multiple times at the beginning and end of the song.
"How did Nas take Harlow’s show of support? “wow i really love this man,” Nas tweeted on Sunday night.
But aside from showing support for Nas, Harlow also performed with a special, surprise guest at the award show—Brandy.
The singer, actress, and model joined Harlow on stage to freestyle during Harlow's"First Class."
The performance came together after Harlow appeared on HOT 97's Ebro In The Morning and didn't seem to recognize Brandy's "Angel in Disguise," and therefore, was unsure who the artist was.
As a clue, the hosts hinted that actor and singer Ray J was related to the artist. But even then, Harlow was unsure. After hearing about the situation, Brandy tweeted, "I will murk this dude in rap at 43 on his own beats and then sing [his] ass to sleep."
