Harry Styles Interviewed Timothée Chalamet and We're Still Recovering
"Can you still eat peaches?"
"Umm I can, but not without thinking about it..."
"I've had a hard time."
On this day, November 1, 2018, the earth stood still.
In a phone conversation that's probably long overdue, platinum award-winning musician Harry Styles and Oscar-nominated actor Timothée Chalamet came together to give us the interview we've all been waiting for. This was a meeting essentially willed into fruition by countless fans who–notwithstanding the duo's matching popular culture millennial icon statuses–took note of just how similar these two individuals were. Indeed, the pair have a lot in common: from their creative methods and love for family, to their relationship with fame and political responsibility.
Considering the authenticity with which both artists engage in their work, it is no surprise that 'vulnerability' was also a major theme throughout this conversation. Styles and Chalamet are brutally honest in their self-reflection and don't hesitate to comment on some of the strains and pains associated with celebrity at such a young age. Among the major positives, however, the pair acknowledge the importance of a new multi-faceted understanding of masculinity to which they've been able to contribute:
"If us having this converation, in any infinitesimal way, can help anyone, a guy, a girl, realize that being vulnerable is not a weakness, not social barrier. You're just human and it's a brave new world."
Fresh off an exciting world tour, Styles is hard at work on his second album, while Chalamet is on set in Boston, Mass. for Greta Gerwig's Little Women after which he'll be joining the cast of Dune.
