Ahead of Bridgerton Season 3, Meet Breakout Star Charithra Chandran

Bridgerton is one of the biggest shows on Netflix, a period drama that has redefined the genre. Each successive season of the show features a new couple, with those stars thrust into the limelight and earning almost instant acclaim. Charithra Chandran burst to fame in the hit show's second season, playing the charming Edwina Sharma, sister of Kate Sharma. With the newest season of the show just weeks away, many are itching to learn more about Chandran and whether she'll feature prominently in Bridgerton's new episodes.

Chandran was born in Scotland in 1997. She spent her childhood and adolescence in and around the UK and India, going on to attend New College, Oxford and graduating in 2019. Chandran was involved in theatre productions throughout her teenage years and opted to pursue acting as a career after her graduation. It wasn't long before Chandran started landing roles. In 2021, she was cast as Sabina Pleasance in the spy thriller Alex Rider. It was likely her work on the show that helped her get noticed for Bridgerton.

In 2022, Chandran landed the role of Edwina Sharma in Bridgerton. The role of charming, witty Edwina was perfect for Chandran, and the character quickly became popular with the show's fans. "She chooses to trust people, which you could see as naïveté or immaturity, but it's a choice that she makes to see the best in others," Chandran said of her character.

Interestingly enough, Chandran first auditioned for the role of Kate Sharma, Edwina's sister. "I had a few auditions for that, and decided it just didn't work out. And that was fine...And then in February, as I was in the makeup chair on the other job, I got a call from my agent telling me that they wanted to see me again for Bridgerton but as the youngest sister."

Since her breakout role in Bridgerton, Chandran has appeared on West End and starred in several more projects. However, many fans still know and love her best as Edwina Sharma. Unfortunately, it seems as though the young actor will not be reprising her role in the upcoming third season. In a recent interview, Chandran shared that she hasn't been on set. Still, there's always the chance that she could pop in for a surprise cameo, delighting fans and followers.
