11 Celebrity Love Triangles that Shocked the World
From Jelena and the Kardashians to the Cyrus family drama, L’OFFICIEL breaks down the juiciest celebrity love triangles.
It’s no secret—love is tricky. But when a third person gets involved, that's when it gets even trickier. It’s normal for relationships to ebb and flow, but when you throw another person into the mix, it can lead to a complicated entanglement and bunch of mangled, broken hearts. And Hollywood is proof of this.
Love triangles have long been the subject of scandal in the entertainment world, but perhaps nothing is more dramatic than a messy situation within family bonds. Amidst the ongoing controversies of the Kardashian family, the love triangle involving Noah and Tish Cyrus stands out as a noteworthy scandal, offering a glimpse of tensions within families under the public eye.
Take a look with L’OFFICIEL as we break down eleven famous love triangles, like Bennifer (Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston) and Jelena (Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez). And don’t worry, there are still some happy endings.
Selena Gomez, Hailey Bieber, and Justin Bieber
Before the “Baby” singer and Rhode skincare founder tied the knot, Justin Bieber had previously been linked with Selena Gomez. The two started dating in 2010, but had a tumultuous, on-and-off relationship for years. After reportedly getting back together in 2017, the two called it quits again in March 2018. Four months later, Bieber was engaged to Hailey Baldwin. Gomez is said to have addressed this in her song “Lose You to Love Me,” with the lyrics “In two months, you replaced us/Like it was easy/Made me think I deserved it/In the thick of healing, yeah.”
But this love triangle doesn’t end there. Even though the Biebers have been married for a few years, fans continue to taunt both Justin and Hailey with the reminder of what once was. At the 2021 Met Gala, fans began chanting “Selena” at the couple, supposedly causing Hailey to cry, and reach for sunglasses. On the other end of the love triangle, Gomez has also received hate, as she has been accused of making fun of Bieber.
At the 2022 Academy Museum Gala, Gomez and Hailey officially debunked any feuding rumors after being photographed hugging one another. After years of being pitted against one another, it seems like both want to let the world know that there's no bad blood between them.
Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Rodrigo, and Joshua Bassett
Back in 2021, when Olivia Rodrigo released, “Driver’s License,” fans assumed that the heartbroken teen was referencing her rumored relationship with her High School Musical: The Musical: The Series co-star Joshua Bassett. And some eyebrows were raised at a couple of lines in her pop song. “And you're probably with that blonde girl/Who always made me doubt/She's so much older than me/She's everything I'm insecure about.” Not long after, Rodrigo's fans began to speculate the “blonde girl” in question was Sabrina Carpenter, who not only was four years older than Rodrigo, but who was also spotted with Bassett in December 2020, sparking romance rumors. About a week later, Bassett released “Lie lie lie.” And similar to Rodrigo’s music video and song theme, Bassett also employed a car theme in his music video. But wait, that’s not all. A few weeks after Rodrigo’s hit was topping the charts, Carpenter released “Skin.” And the lyrics? Well, they seemed to reference right back to Rodrigo. “Maybe you didn't mean it/Maybe blonde was the only rhyme” and “You can try/To get under my, under my, under my skin/While he's on mine.”
But both Carpenter and Rodrigo have denied claims that the songs were about one another.
In July 2022, Carpenter also released her song "Because I Liked a Boy" which opens up about the slut-shaming comments she received when the relationship drama became public knowledge.
Angelina Jolie, Jennifer Aniston, and Brad Pitt
Here comes love. Here comes marriage. Here comes a baby in a baby carriage, right? Wrong. At least for Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston. Even though one of Hollywood’s most powerful couples tied the knot in 2000, the two were separated by 2005. But even before they shared the news of their split, rumors of another relationship started swirling. It was on set of his movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith where Brad Pitt met Angelina Jolie. And by January 2006, the two were expecting their first baby together— only three months after Bennifer’s divorce was finalized.
Jordyn Woods, Khloé Kardashian, and Tristan Thompson
If you’re a fan of the Kardashian-Jenner family, you will be familiar with this celebrity love triangle. For years, Kylie Jenner, the youngest Kar-Jenner was best friends with model Jordyn Woods, who often appeared in both Keeping Up with the Kardashians and Life of Kylie. But things changed in 2019 when Woods made headlines after hooking up with Tristan Thompson, Khloé Kardashian’s then-boyfriend and father of her daughter True. Viewers saw the celebrity cheating scandal play out during Season 16 of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and social media, like in Kardashian’s tweet that read, “Why are you lying @jordynwoods ?? If you’re going to try and save yourself by going public, INSTEAD OF CALLING ME PRIVATELY TO APOLOGIZE FIRST, at least be HONEST about your story. BTW, You ARE the reason my family broke up!”
Jason Sudeikis, Harry Styles, and Olivia Wilde
Olivia Wilde and Ted Lasso actor Jason Sudeikis were engaged for seven years before announcing their split in 2020. But it seems sparks flew between the popular musician Harry Styles and Wilde on the set of her film Don’t Worry Darling. At the beginning of 2021, Styles and Wilde were photographed holding hands. As months went on, the two carried on and showed support for one another—like the viral TikToks of Wilde dancing at Styles’s concerts. But this famous love triangle continued to play out in the public eye. In May 2022, Wilde was served custody papers for her and Sudeikis’s two children… while on stage presenting.
Kylie Jenner, Blac Chyna, and Tyga... and Rob Kardashian, too
Next up: another love triangle involving the Kardashian-Jenner family. Since this one gets quite messy, let’s simplify it. Blac Chyna and rapper Tyga were linked romantically from 2011 to 2014. The two also share a child together. But not too long after his split with Chyna, Tyga started dating Kylie Jenner, the youngest Kar-Jenner. During their relationship though, Blac Chyna started dating Jenner’s older brother, Rob Kardashian. And in 2016, Chyna and Kardashian welcomed baby Dream into the world. Since then, both Jenner and Tyga and Chyna and Kardashian have split.
Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan, and Aaron Carter
A teenage celebrity love triangle for the books. Disney star Hilary Duff started dating singer Aaron Carter on his... 13th birthday. But after he “got a little bored,” he went and started to date Mean Girls star Lindsay Lohan. And then? He got bored again, so he went back to the A Cinderella Story actress.
Bella Hadid, The Weeknd, and Selena Gomez
In November of 2016, The Weeknd and Bella Hadid parted ways amicably after an 18-month relationship. However, in March, photographs emerged of The Weeknd sharing a kiss with Selena Gomez. Were they ever close? Not really. But this only ignited further drama as Bella and Selena unfollowed each other on Instagram shortly after.
Noah Cyrus, Tish Cyrus, and Dominic Purcell
In the ongoing saga of celebrity entanglements, the Cyrus family drama adds another layer to the mix. Amidst the simmering tensions within the family, highlighted by Noah's absence from her mother's wedding, the intrigue only intensifies. Before Dominic Purcell exchanged vows with Tish Cyrus, rumors surfaced regarding Noah's connection to Dominic, sparking speculation about any discussions that might have taken place prior to the wedding. Noah's evasive "no comment" only fueled curiosity, leaving us intrigued about the undisclosed conversations prior to the wedding.
Tom Brady, Gisele Bündchen, and Bridget Moynahan
In a tale of love, co-parenting, and resilience, Tom Brady and Bridget Moynahan shared a two-year relationship before parting ways in 2007, yet they've remained devoted co-parents to their son ever since. Not long after their split, Brady found himself on a blind date with Gisele Bündchen. Their whirlwind romance led to marriage in 2009, but after 13 years together, they announced their separation in 2022. Despite the twists and turns, the trio has maintained an amicable relationship, exemplified by Brady's heartfelt Mother's Day Instagram post that celebrated both Moynahan and Bündchen, showing their united front in co-parenting.
Orlando Bloom, Miranda Kerr, and Justin Bieber
The Ibiza fight between Justin Bieber and Orlando Bloom made headlines worldwide. At the heart of the conflict was Miranda Kerr, Bloom's ex-wife prior to their split in 2013, who was photographed with Bieber backstage at a 2012 Victoria's Secret fashion show. While Kerr denied any romantic involvement, rumors abound that this incident contributed to the strain in her relationship with Bloom. To make matters worse, Bloom was later spotted with Selena Gomez in Las Vegas in 2016. The ongoing tension between them still continues to this day.
