A Look at Britney Spears and Sam Asghari's $10 Million Prenup
After news dropped that Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are reportedly heading towards a divorce, Asghari allegedly wanted to renegotiate the prenup.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari have reportedly split, heading towards a divorce. The news first broke on Wednesday by TMZ, followed by confirmation from Page Six. According to sources who spoke to TMZ, the reason for their divorce is due to cheating allegations as Asghari "confronted Spears about stepping out on him."
While the cheating allegations have yet to be confirmed, a separation is most certainly in the foreseeable future. "It’s only a matter of time before Sam files for divorce," a source told TMZ.
The "matter of time" in question is now as Asghari has filed for divorce as TMZ learned on Thursday.
That said, before they got married, Asghari signed an iron-clad prenup for Spears to protect her $60 million worth of assets. "Britney and Sam signed a prenup in her favor,” a source told Page Six at the time of their nuptials. "Any money she made before the wedding is protected."
According to an insider that spoke to US Weekly, the prenup states that "Asghari will receive $1 million per every two years of their marriage, with a cap at $10 million after 15 years."
Additionally, "Asghari also waived any claims to Spears’ music catalog and his name isn’t on the deed of their shared home; instead, the pair agreed to put the house into a limited liability company or LLC."
Sources with more knowledge about the prenup told TMZ that Asghari "gets no payout in the event of divorce," does not get "spousal support," and there's an "extensive confidentiality clause" that doesn't allow him to talk about his relationship with Spears.
While Asghari clearly agreed and signed to these terms, now that a divorce is imminent, he's allegedly wanted her to gimme more.
He was "attempting to negotiate concessions beyond his prenup and threatening to go public with extraordinarily embarrassing information about Britney unless he gets paid," according to a source who spoke to Page Six.
"It’s blackmail and it’ll never happen," a separate insider told Page Six.
There is no news on how much money Asghari allegedly was seeking or what other prenup terms he was looking to renegotiate. However, Asghari's representative Brandon Cohen has denied the claims he wants to contest the prenup.
"There are many claims that Sam is challenging the prenup and threatening to exploit his ex-wife with videos," Cohen told The Hollywood Reporter. "However, all these claims are false, and no negative intention has ever been directed towards her and never will be. Sam has always and will always support her."
Amid their separation, Spears has hired powerhouse divorce lawyer Laura Wasser, the same attorney Spears hired when fighting for custody over her two children against her ex-husband Kevin Federline.
Other celebrity clients Wasser has represented include Kim Kardashian, Johnny Depp, and most recently, Joe Manganiello.
According to TMZ, Asghari has already moved out of the house before news of their separation broke on Wednesday, and Spears is once again estranged from her family. She is allegedly not on speaking terms with her mother, father, or any of her siblings. Her children have reportedly moved to Hawaii and do not speak with their mother.
"She has one confidant, [her manager] Cade [Hudson]. Then there's her security team, and after that, her support system falls off a cliff," a source told TMZ.
Even amidst the divorce, prenup situation, and alleged family drama, Spears appears to be looking at the bright side of things as she recently posted on Instagram that she is "buying a horse soon."
Spears also has her highly-anticipated memoir The Woman In Me still set to release on October 24. The memoir follows her journey of perseverance and freedom, as it comes in the wake of her highly public court case pleading to end her conservatorship. The memoir, of course, will not include anything about the ongoing separation.
On Thursday, Asghari broke his silence, speaking to the public since news of the divorce made headlines. He took to his Instagram story and wrote, "After 6 years of love and commitment to each other my wife and I have decided to end our journey together. We will hold onto the love and respect we have for each other and I wish her the best always. Shit happens. Asking for privacy seems ridiculous so I will just ask for everyone including media to be kind and thoughtful."
