A Complete Timeline of Anya Taylor-Joy and Malcolm McRae's Relationship

We all know Anya Taylor-Joy for her versatile acting skills across various genres, as she gained widespread recognition for her captivating portrayal of Beth Harmon in the Netflix miniseries The Queen's Gambit. Taylor-Joy has starred in other notable films such as 2022's The Menu, The Witch, Split, Emma, and The Northman, showcasing her talent and versatility as an actress. Outside of the movie screen, she's living a full-fledged epic romance with her husband of two years, Malcolm McRae, a member of the rock band More*. McRae is a multi-talented musician who plays guitar, piano, and lends his vocals for the band alongside Kane Ritchotte, a former member of Portugal The Man. Their musical collaboration bore fruit with the release of their debut EP, 1/2, in July 2020, followed by their second EP, 2/2, in September 2021.

"I've finally found someone who will happily sit in silence with me reading," Taylor-Joy said in April 2022. "We're basically 80 years old and 7 at the same time, and it works really well."

Although we don't have a definitive date for the beginning of their relationship, they initially crossed paths at the March 2021 premiere of Taylor-Joy's celebrated Netflix series The Queen's Gambit.

It's speculated that the two began dating shortly after this. 

The pair's first not-so-soft-launch was on Instagram. Their journey began on McRae's Instagram in July 2021 with a photo of Taylor-Joy, accompanied by the caption "I'm besotted."

In October of the same year, he shared window selfies of them holding hands, captioning it with "Oof supremely happy."

Throughout the rest of their relationship, you'll see the two frequently share photos of each other on social media. 

The pair made one of their first public appearances at the CAA Pre-Oscars party in March of 2022. From then on, the couple often arrived together arm in arm to attend red carpet events. 

Outside of classy red-carpet affairs, however, the couple seemed to remain somewhat private. 

Taylor-Joy and McRae exchanged vows in a private ceremony in New Orleans on April 1, 2022. Reflecting on their secret wedding two years later in an interview with Entertainment Tonight, the actress revealed their covert approach, describing themselves as "pretty spy-oriented" throughout the process.

She elaborated, expressing that the intimate affair was centered around their bond, as they eloped with their closest friends to create a magical day. Taylor-Joy added, "It kind of made it all the more special, ‘cause it just felt like a secret that we got to keep to ourselves."

Their romantic ceremony took place in a candlelit church, with Taylor-Joy stunning in a custom Dior gown adorned with floral motifs. 

Taylor-Joy only recently posted on Instagram sharing photos from the ceremony with the caption,

"Two years ago, on April Fools, I secretly married my best friend in New Orleans. The magic of that day is ingrained in every cell of my being, forever.

In October 2023, McRae and Taylor-Joy celebrated a lavish second wedding in Venice, Italy, at the majestic Palazzo Pisani Moretta. The actress opted to re-adorn her Dior gown for this memorable occasion.
