Anya Taylor Joy Twins With Natalie Portman on the Red Carpet
Call it the Sisterhood of the Traveling Dior Dress. If Anya Taylor Joy's Haute Couture Dior look at the 2024 Oscars looked familiar, here's why.
Did Anya Taylor Joy’s Haute Couture Dior look for the 2024 Oscars seem familiar to you? If so, it’s no surprise. The strapless gray dress pays homage to Christian Dior’s archival Junon and Venus dresses created by the French designer for his Fall/Winter 1949/50 collection, and currently in hands of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute. The petals on the skirts—reminiscent of eyeless peacock feathers—carry references from ancient Greece goddesses, also reflected on the gowns' names.
But that's not all. Anya Taylor Joy's 2024 Oscars dress is also a sister to Natalie Portman’s 2023 Cannes Film Festival look. While Taylor Joy’s gown leaned on a silver palette, which was accessorized with Tiffany & Co. jewelry, Portman’s rendition stayed true to the white and blue of the original dresses and opted for more understated drop earrings.
The déjà vu doesn’t stop there, though. Miley Cyrus wore a similar inspired look by Zuhair Murhad for the 2009 Academy Awards, which, like Taylor Joy’s and Portman’s dresses, had a layered, scalloped skirt. Cyrus’s version however went for a plunging neckline with scalloped straps, a thick cream belt, and much more sparkle.
