Amanda Bynes Follows in Britney Spears’ Footsteps, Asks to End Conservatorship
Amanda Bynes has lived under her mother’s conservatorship since 2013 and is asking to once again be in control of her life.
Throughout the 2000s, Amanda Bynes was one of the most prominent actresses in teen movies, starring in hits such as What a Girl Wants, She's The Man, and Hairspray. In 2013, however, Bynes' mental health struggles came to a head when she was accused of starting a fire in a neighbor's garage. Later that year, the star was admitted to a psychiatric clinic and placed under a conservatorship controlled by her mother, Lynn Bynes.
Now, nearly nine years later, Amanda has filed in court to end her conservatorship on the grounds that her condition has greatly improved and court protection is no longer needed. In the preparation for the hearing scheduled for March 22, 2022, the 35-year-old actress submitted a document from a psychiatrist stating, "Amanda has no apparent deficiencies in alertness and attention, information and processing, or the ability to modulate mood and affect, and does not suffer from thought disorders."
In a recent interview, Lynn's lawyer announced that Lynn supports the request to end the conservatorship, adding that she is "proud of the progress" of her daughter and "excited for the next chapter in Amanda's life."
