King Charles Diagnosed With Cancer
Buckingham Palace announced King Charles III has been diagnosed with cancer this afternoon.
King Charles has been recently diagnosed with cancer, Buckingham Palace announced early this afternoon. Although he had been in the hospital recently due to an enlarged prostate, it has been confirmed it is not prostate cancer.
The type of cancer has not been released by Buckingham Palace, however, it is known that it was discovered during the treatment of his enlarged prostate.
On Monday, the King left Sandringham in Norfolk where he is receiving outpatient treatment to return to London. According to Buckingham Palace, the King "looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible" and "remains wholly positive about his treatment."
Although little information has been revealed about his diagnosis as far as the type of cancer or at what stage he is, it has been reported that his sons were notified before any press. According to the BBC, Prince Harry will travel from California to the UK to visit his father in the coming days.
While he will not be partaking in public duties, he will maintain his constitutional responsibilities. In cases of monarchs unable to carry out their royal duties, they can appoint "counselors of state" to take their place. This would typically be other working royal family members. At present, Queen Camilla, Prince William, Princess Anne, and Prince Edward would all qualify.
