TOKiMONSTA is back with her first release since 2017. The Los Angeles-based DJ and producer has just dropped “Strange Froot”, which features Grammy-winning soul singer-songwriter Ambré, is a as part as the upcoming Young Art Sound II project. The album is slated for release on May 3. TOKiMONSTA recently became the first Asian-American female Grammy-nominated producer for her last release, Lune Rouge, which was up for Best Dance/Electronic album at this year’s award ceremony. This nomination was particularly meaningful to the producer, who created this album after a period of deep personal hardship where she could not speak, listen or create music as a result of undergoing two brain surgeries for the life-threatening brain disease Moyamoya in 2016.

“Strange Froot” reminds us why she was nominated for a Grammy. It was released today along with a visualizer video, which you can check out below. It is a considerable leap from the more electronic material she is known for. Ambré’s chill vocals are given lead the way, as a soft acoustic guitar-driven and steady backbeat grooves through the track. Laid back, the song is an easy listen and perfect for unwinding, just like the calming video of psychedelic visuals.

As a part of the Young Art Sound II, a sequel to 2017’s Young Art Sound, the song is the first in a series of singles that will be dropped every two weeks until the former's release. TOKiMONSTA is joined on the tracklisting by artists such as MNDR, Gavin Turek, Manila Killa, Blackbird BlackBird, Ryan Playground, B.Lewis, and more. Until then, you can catch TOKiMONSTA's upcoming cameo on CNN’s Great Big Story, to talk about her battle with Moyamoya, or on tour at any of the dates below.
