Stevie Nicks Revisits "Edge of Seventeen" in New Song with Miley Cyrus
Rock goddess Stevie Nicks collaborates with Miley Cyrus on a new song, “Edge of Midnight.” The track, a remix of Cyrus’ new single “Midnight Sky,” blends the song together with Nicks’ 1981 song “Edge of Seventeen” from her debut album Bella Donna. Their new duet, which opens with Nicks' iconic guitar intro from her original single, brings together '80s rock with today's pop.
Cyrus recently admitted on the Zach Sang Show that parts of “Midnight Sky” were in homage to Nicks' work, someone she has idolized for many years. She said, “So I actually reached out to her directly about—'This song, it has your spirit, your magic.' I actually wrote this whole kind of message about, 'You know, the kind of artist I want to be is the kind of artist that you've been for me. I just hope that I can be that for other people.'"
Nicks’ response? She reportedly told Cyrus that she “could not be more flattered.”
While the remix officially drops today, several fan-made mash-ups of the two songs, created by user kelexandra, were gaining traction on Youtube, possibly inspiring the two singers to assuage their fans with a streamable version.
The rest of Cyrus’ new album, Plastic Hearts, releases November 27.
