Ed Sheeran Gives a Status Update to Taylor Swift's Rumored 'Reputation' Re-Record
Shortly after Taylor Swift announced she is releasing 1989 (Taylor's Version), fans believe Reputation is the next album to be re-recorded.
Ed Sheeran just clued Swifties in on the status update for the rumored belief Taylor Swift is in the works of re-recording Reputation next.
In an interview on Andy Cohen’s Deep & Shallow podcast, the "Thinking Out Loud" singer revealed he has yet to re-record their collaborative song “End Game” from her sixth studio album.
"No, I haven’t. No," he said when asked about it. "But 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is the next one coming out. That’s the next one."
Hits from Reputation include songs such as "Delicate," "Getaway Car," "Look What You Made Me Do," and "Don't Blame Me."
Additionally, Cohen asked Sheeran if he has seen Swift's Eras Tour or Beyonce's Renaissance Tour, though both are happening simultaneously during his own respective Subtract Tour.
"I think what's nice about everyone's show is everyone's show is so individual to them," Sheeran answered. "And everyone's got a different show, so, uh, so yeah. I mean, but we're all playing. I would love to go and see Taylor's show, but we're all playing on the same dates every single weekend. I think there's a chance next year when she's in the U.K."
Swift and Sheeran have quite the friendship history, as he was Swift's opener for the 2013 North American Tour, and joined her in re-recording their duet Everything Has Changed for Red (Taylor's Version), released in 2021. He also attributed Swift to introducing him to Aaron Dessner, the producer of his latest album Subtract, and thanked her in a lengthy Instagram post.
"So in 2021, I got a message from @taylorswift to link me up with @aarondessner. She thought he and I would make something great together," he wrote. "I have to be honest I was a bit reticent to work with him that soon after folklore and evermore because I felt that was Taylors thing and they had both been done so perfectly."
He continued, "But we met for dinner, chatted about life and music, and he promised to send me some instrumentals for me to write over whenever inspiration hit. As soon as I got them, I loved the whole overall vibe of it and knew that one day I would write to them, but at the time I was finishing up what I thought was Subtract, so would put them on the back burner for a bit."
"Then, as I said in my announcement post, a lot of things started happening in my personal life that I just felt the need to vent about on song and write diaristically about them. I had Aarons instrumentals, so just started writing, and writing, and writing," he wrote. "He flew over to the UK and we recorded it in a week by the seaside, and its just been the most incredible process, and an album I'm so bloody proud of. Thanks to Aaron and Jon for the insane amount of hard work and dedication you put into this project, and bringing out a side of me I had put on mute for so long."
The anticipation for Reputation (Taylor's Version) comes shortly after Swift announced she's releasing 1989 (Taylor's Version) come October 27. She unveiled the news during her final U.S. stop in Los Angeles before beginning her European leg.
She also gave the news on Instagram, captioning the post, "Surprise!! 1989 (Taylor’s Version) is on its way to you! The 1989 album changed my life in countless ways, and it fills me with such excitement to announce that my version of it will be out October 27th. To be perfectly honest, this is my most FAVORITE re-record I've ever done because the 5 From the Vault tracks are so insane. I can't believe they were ever left behind. But not for long!"
