2022 Grammy Awards Postponed Due to COVID-19 Surge
The show was originally scheduled to take place on January 31 in Los Angeles.
Following the recent string of award show postponements, the Recording Academy announced Wednesday that the 2022 Grammy Awards, which were originally slated to air live from Los Angeles on January 31, have been pushed back. Like last year's ceremony, the latest uptick in COVID-19 cases, particularly the new Omicron variant, was the primary factor in delaying the event.
In a joint statement, CBS and the Recording Academy explained, “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience, and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority.”
The statement also said that a new date will be announced soon.
In an effort to properly maintain social distance requirements, last year's show took place at the Los Angeles Convention Center. This year, however, the Recording Academy announced that the show would be held at the newly-named Crypto.com Arena, led by returning host Trevor Noah.
Among the nominees, Jon Batiste leads the pack with 11 overall nominations, while major pop stars like Justin Bieber, Doja Cat, Olivia Rodrigo, and Lil Nas X have each garner nods in several major categories including Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.
