Watch: How the Dior Book Tote Bag is Made
For Cruise 2019, the versatile Dior Book Tote bag sports a new embroidered toile de Jouy motif.
The beige and blue canvas tote, which was crafted in a traditional Italian family-run atelier, was inspired by a toile de Jouy that adorned the walls of the founding couturier’s first boutique since 1947.
Inspired by that very toile de Jouy, Dior’s artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri modernized the print of pastoral scenes with a series of wild animals—tigers, monkeys, lions, and serpents—living together in the heart of the forest.
And—get this—each Dior Book Tote in Toile de Jouy requires over forty-two hours of embroidery and a whopping 1,600,000 stitches.
