Viola Davis Stars as Michelle Obama in New Showtime Series
In the trailer for The First Lady, Viola Davis gives a stand-out performance.
Throughout her career, Viola Davis has won over audiences with her impressive talent, iconic characters, and inspiring story of resilience. Now, she is about to play another legendary and captivating woman, Michelle Obama, in the upcoming Showtime series, The First Lady. The idea of representing such an important personality as the former First Lady of the United States might seem like a daunting task, but Davis stuns in her performance seen in the trailer.
The series will have 10 episodes that address the trajectory of three of the country's first ladies, namely Obama, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Betty Ford, played by Davis, Gillian Anderson, and Michelle Pfeiffer, respectively.
Their stories will be told from the perspective of these women, who became legendary and had major political impacts on the history of the country. Audiences will get to know their lives beyond their work as First Ladies, uncovering their own personal problems, desires, and fears.
Viola, for her part, is praising the intense strength of Obama, as well as the fears she had in taking on the role of First Lady of the United States. “Do they want to turn me into a Black Martha Stewart? I will choose my team, choose my causes. Understood?" says Davis in the trailer.
The First Lady premieres on Showtime on April 17.
