After setting streaming records and winning a number of awards, Netflix's hit show The Queen's Gambit is being adapted into a Broadway musical. Level Forward, the production company behind Alanis Morrisette's Jagged Little Pill and Jeremy O'Harris' Slave Play has secured the rights to Walter Tevis' novel on which the show was based.

Last month, the series took home a Golden Globe for Best Limited Series, while Anya Taylor-Joy's performance as Beth Harmon won Best Actress awards at both the Golden Globes and the Critics' Choice Awards.

The show follows Kentucky chess prodigy Beth Harmon as she finds success in her newfound skill, while also battling drug addiction and the struggles of her past. The series also stars Thomas Brodie-Sangster as Benny Watts, Beth's chess competitor and friend.

In a statement, Level Forward's CEO Adrienne Becker and producer Julia Dunetz said, "It is a privilege for Level Forward to lead the charge of bringing The Queen's Gambit to the stage through the beloved and enduring craft of musical theater.

"Told through a brave and fresh point of view, audiences are already sharing in the friendship and fortitude of the story's inspiring women who energize and sustain Beth Harmon's journey and ultimate triumph.

"The story is a siren call amidst our contemporary struggles for gender and racial equity, and we're looking forward to moving the project forward."
