While many know her for her role as Beth Harmon in The Queen's Gambit, Anya Taylor-Joy has appeared in several on-screen roles in both TV and film with much critical acclaim. The L'OFFICIEL star was featured in her first major role at the age of 19 in the movie The Witch. Today, after the success of the new Netflix series, the actress also stands at the center of media attention as she prepares for her forthcoming films, Mad Max: Fury Road spinoff Furiosa and Edgar Wright's new horror movie Last Night in SoHo. The Witch
Released in 2015, this horror movie debuted Taylor-Joy's raw talent. In this feature film, Robert Eggers immerses us in 17th century New England. William and Katherine, a religiously devout couple, lead a pious life with their five children, while cultivating their plot of land in the middle of a still wilderness. However, their quiet life takes a turn the day their newborn disappears, and the family blames the eldest daughter Thomasin, played by Taylor-Joy.
Barry
This 2016 drama traces the youth of former United States President Barack Obama beginning with his arrival in New York in the fall of 1981 for his third year at Columbia University. Barry highlights Obama's challenges of maintaining relationships with his mother, father, and friends during that era. Taylor-Joy appears opposite Devon Terrell, as the titular character's college girlfriend.
Morgan
From British director Luke Scott, this 2016 thriller plunges viewers into a world of science fiction. Risk management consultant Lee, played by Kate Mara (House of Cards, Fantastic Four), is sent to an isolated and undisclosed location to investigate a terrifying event that took place there. She is then introduced to Morgan (Taylor-Joy), a robot with the facade of an innocent young girl who holds within her the promise of scientific progress.
Marrowbone
Taylor-Joy stars in Marrowbone, a 2017 Spanish psychological horror drama. Desperate not to be separated, Jack (George MacKay) and his younger siblings decide to hide the death of their mother, who was raising them alone. The siblings escape from England to their mother's ancestral residence in Maine, where they become friends with Allie (Taylor-Joy). As they are left to fend for themselves on the isolated family farm, strange phenomena indicate a malicious presence lurking in their new home.
Split
After being noticed in The Witch, the Queen's Gambit actress gained even more notoriety for her role in Split. Directed by M. Night Shyamalan, this 2017 thriller showcases the character of Kevin, played by James McAvoy, as he suffers from a remarkable case of dissociative identity disorder. While his devoted psychiatrist, Doctor Fletcher, has already discovered 23 different personalities in him, a 24th personality, darker and more menacing than all the others, is said to be still buried within. Nicknamed "The Beast," this last personality will soon manifest itself and take precedence over all the others, beginning with the kidnapping of three teenage girls.
Thoroughbreds
Directed by Cory Finley, the 2018 film Thoroughbreds follows the adventure of Lily and Amanda, played by Taylor-Joy and Olivia Cooke, respectively, two childhood friends living in suburban Connecticut years who find themselves reconnected after several years apart. Although they have both evolved in different ways, the two friends create a strong bond as they plot to murder Lily's stepfather Mark. Their plan involves hiring a local drug dealer, however, when things go awry, they must take matters into their own hands.
Glass
Two years after Split, director M. Night Shyamalan unveiled Glass, the sequel to his hit thriller. Taylor-Joy and McAvoy reprise their previous roles, alongside a new character played by Bruce Willis. Glass follows the adventures of David Dunn (Willis), shortly after the events recounted in the 2017 film. The man continues his hunt for The Beast, the nickname given to Kevin Crumb (McAvoy), while a mysterious man, Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson), joins in the adventure. However, after being kidnapped by Crumb, Casey Cooke (Taylor-Joy) returns to get revenge on him and his new cohorts.
Radioactive
In late-19th century Paris, passionate scientist Marie, played by Rosamund Pike (Gone Girl), struggles to impose her ideas and discoveries in a male-dominated society. Alongside Pierre Curie (Sam Riley), who would eventually become her husband, she carries out research on radioactivity, eventually discovering two new elements: radium and polonium, a major discovery that will earn the couple a Nobel Prize as well as international fame. However, after a tragic accident, Marie must continue her research alone and face the consequences of her discoveries on the modern world. Taylor-Joy stars in this romantic drama as Irène Curie, daughter of Marie and Pierre.
Emma
Emma is a British comedy drama directed by Autumn de Wilde and inspired by Jane Austen's novel of the same name. The visually rich film immerses us in the English countryside of the early 19th century as the story follows the adventures of Emma Woodhouse (Taylor-Joy) who tries to help single girls in her circle of friends find their soulmates.
