No need to fear, the new Superman: Legacy film is here!

Whether swooping in to save the citizens of Metropolis or doing his best reporting for the Daily Planet, Superman has long captivated audiences from the comic books to the big screen. Now, Superman: Legacy is the newest upcoming film featuring the beloved hero.&nbsp;
While the film&rsquo;s release is set for summer 2025, there&rsquo;s still plenty to get excited about now. Most recently, it was announced that the cape would be passed from <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/henry-cavill-young-photos-superman-actor-movies" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Henry Cavill</a> to <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/david-corsenswet-new-superman-henry-cavill-replacement-movie-actor" target="_blank" rel="noopener">David Corenswet</a>, and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/fashion/rachel-brosnahan-marvelous-mrs-maisel-costumes" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rachel Brosnahan</a> joined the cast as the Lois Lane to Corenswet&rsquo;s Clark Kent with more roles yet to be announced.

Superman: Legacy will be directed by James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios and responsible for films like The Suicide Squad (2021) and The Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy. So, it&rsquo;s safe to say that the franchise is in good hands with Gunn. He will be working on the film with co-head of DC Studios Peter Safran, and the two care about emphasizing Superman&rsquo;s fundamental values of kindness and justice. <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/feature/guardians-of-the-galaxy-chris-pratt-cast-saved-james-gunn-1235401687/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Gunn has also said</a> that he relates to the character, as they both feel like outsiders despite having the insider status of big names and reputations.&nbsp;
So who will be the next Man of Steel? After the announcement that Henry Cavill would not be returning to his role, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/pop-culture/next-superman-actor-rumors-predictions" target="_blank" rel="noopener">the search was on</a>. The beloved former Superman announced the news on Instagram, saying, &ldquo;It&rsquo;s sad news, everyone. I will, after all, not be returning as Superman. After being told by the studio to announce my return back in October, prior to their hire, this news isn&rsquo;t the easiest, but that&rsquo;s life.&rdquo; Gunn revealed that since the film takes place in an earlier part of the hero&rsquo;s life, they began looking for a new actor.&nbsp;

Instead, it was announced that David Corenswet will take over the role of Superman in Superman: Legacy. It was a race full of anticipation, with other big names like <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/best-movies-michael-b-jordan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Michael B. Jordan</a> and <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/nicholas-hoult-elle-fanning-interview-renfield-nosferatu-the-great" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Nicholas Hoult</a> rumored to be vying for the role. Corenswet is most known for his roles in the film Pearl, as well as the Netflix series, <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/film-tv/sex-and-fashion-in-ryan-murphys-hollywood" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Hollywood</a> and The Politician. Matching his Clark Kent is <a href="https://www.lofficielusa.com/search?query=rachel+brosnahan" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rachel Brosnahan</a> as Lois Lane. She is best known for starring as Mrs. Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. It will be exciting to see how such talented actors portray their iconic roles for DC.&nbsp;
Gunn also revealed that the film is still looking for actors to play Lex Luthor, Superman&rsquo;s arch-nemesis, and Clark Kent&rsquo;s friend Jimmy Olsen. So, we can expect to see these characters in the film as well.

The Plot

The plot of Superman: Legacy takes it back in time. The film will focus on Clark Kent as a young reporter in Metropolis and his efforts to realize his identity as both alien superhero and human. Safran has <a href="https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-features/james-gunn-unveils-dc-slate-batman-superman-1235314176/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">clarified that the movie is not an origin story</a>, &ldquo;it focuses on Superman balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.&rdquo; Saffron added, &ldquo;He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way,&rdquo; so the film will likely see those values come into conflict with the villains Superman encounters.&nbsp;

The Time

The film is set to release July 11, 2025. Although, in the midst of the writers&rsquo; strike and a looming SAG strike, it&rsquo;s unclear when filming will begin.
It looks like Superman: Legacy hopes to bring a fresh and exciting take on the iconic Man of Steel, and we can&rsquo;t wait to see Corenswet in the cape and the rest of the film when it releases.
