Scarlett Johansson and Disney Reach a Deal After 'Black Widow' Controversy
The actress sued Disney for financial damages from the company's decision to simultaneously distribute Black Widow in theaters and on Disney+.
The contract between Scarlett Johansson and Marvel is not yet over. The actress recently filed a lawsuit against Disney for breach of contract after the studio released Black Widow on its new streaming platform Disney+ concurrently with theaters. Johansson would have a share in the box office revenue, but with the launch made on the platform, the revenue dropped drastically, directly impacting the actress' earnings.
With the lawsuit, Johansson's future as Black Widow was uncertain at first, but on a recent red carpet, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige broke the news every fan had been waiting for. " We are already working on another top-secret Marvel Studios project, unrelated to Black Widow, with her (Scarlett) as producer," said Feige.
Before the lawsuit, the actress was chosen to star in a movie with the studio about the famous Disneyworld amusement ride Tower of Terror. Johansson will continue in this project, as the protagonist and producer. Now, it is confirmed that Johansson's relationship with Disney and Marvel will continue in this mysterious upcoming Marvel project, though it has no connection to Black Widow, a role that the actress has played for the last 10 years.
“I am very happy that we resolved our differences. I am extremely proud of the work done over the years and I really enjoy the creative work done with the team. I hope our collaboration will continue for a long time to come,” Johansson said in a recent statement.
