Toast of the Town: Moët & Chandon Honor Hollywood Glitterati and Charity at the Globes
As Hollywood's champagne of choice marks its 34th year at the Golden Globes, here's a look at how the night's biggest stars celebrate, from the '90s to today.
Perusing vintage fashion photos on Getty Images may not be a hobby of yours, but it is certainly one of mine. Though a niche pursuit (the 80,000 people who follow @gettyimagesfanclub may disagree), unearthing throwback red carpet images from the Golden Globes, the Oscars, early Aughts film premieres, and the Met Gala are some of the most captivating archival treasures to explore. Thirty years ago, these events were a much more casual affair, as evidenced by Meg Ryan rolling up to the Globes in a knit sweater in 1999, while Cameron Diaz wore a kimono over pants. Some guests even wore (gasp!) jeans. The fact that these memories were all captured on film imbues them with an ineffable mystique, rendering one of Hollywood’s biggest nights out even more glamorous.
If one thing jumps out in all these candid Golden Globes photos, it’s that every celeb worth their weight in Globe statuette gold is toasting with a glass of Moët & Chandon. Leonardo DiCaprio poured Diaz a glass of champagne in a rare snap from 2010; that same year, film and fashion heavyweights Sophia Loren, Tom Ford, and L’OFFICIEL USA cover star Julianne Moore cozied up in a booth behind a bottle of Möet on ice; 8 years later, a baby-faced Kendall Jenner raised her Moët Mini (complete with gilded flute) to the flashing cameras. If one digs deep enough, there is even a very memeable snap of Ben Affleck in contemplative communion with his champagne flute as he pours himself a glass of Moët. That one is from 2014.
This year, at the 82nd Golden Globes, Moët & Chandon again stole the spotlight, celebrating 34 years as the exclusive champagne partner for Hollywood's most glamorous night. With Moët Minis in hand, the industry's brightest stars toasted to the year's cinematic and television triumphs, infusing the evening with a signature touch of effervescence and elegance.
Though Moët has a long-standing presence at the Golden Globes, this year, they introduced something fresh: a red-carpet vending machine stocked with Moët Minis, ensuring no one leaves the red carpet empty-handed. Years from now, someone digging in the Getty Images archive will marvel at how, with the push of a button, guests received their own Mini Moëts.
Moët & Chandon champagne flowed throughout the evening, from the red carpet to the entrance to the Winner's Room, where stars celebrated with personalized trophy bottles. The event saw A-listers like Ariana Grande, Cynthia Erivo, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner, and the Fanning sisters enjoying both the classic Brut Impérial and Rosé Impérial varieties. Winners including Jean Smart, Kieran Culkin, and Jodie Foster, along with the casts of shows like Shogun and Wicked, toasted their victories with the prestigious bubbly, specially selected to complement Chef Nobu Matsuhisa's menu. Aside from the glitz and glamour of it all, the evening also highlighted Moët & Chandon’s ongoing philanthropic initiative, ‘Toast for a Cause,’ which allowed celebrities to raise a glass while supporting over 25 different charities.
Television personality Lilly Singh was also on hand, as the champagne brand’s first-ever red-carpet correspondent, interviewing attendees and toasting standout moments throughout the night. Elsewhere, lensman German Larkin roamed from table to table capturing the best candid snaps of the evening, preserving the moment for future decades of sartorial sleuths.
