Leaked Script from 'Sex and the City' Reboot Reveals Split for Major Couple
It looks like time has not been kind to Carrie and Mr. Big's relationship.
While Sarah Jessica Parker and the rest of the Sex and the City cast have been spotted around New York City filming the upcoming HBO Max reboot And Just Like That, a leaked excerpt from the show's script suggests that protagonist Carrie Bradshaw and her longtime love interest Mr. Big are no longer together.
After six seasons and two theatrical films, it seemed like all was finally well for the couple. However, Page Six has obtained a script from the reboot that would beg to differ. In the script, Carrie muses to her friends Miranda Hobbs (Cynthia Nixon), Charlotte York Goldenblatt (Kristin Davis), and Stanford Blatch (Willie Garson) about the end of her marriage over a meal at a restaurant. While explaining that she is not handling the situation well, Carrie recalls to the group, "I was taping the podcast, I was washing my hair. Yes, I wasn’t eating or sleeping, but at least I felt good about my marriage. Now I’m just one of the wives he was taking care of?"
The use of the past tense at the end would indicate that the couple is no longer together, a fact that doesn't surprise many fans of the show. Viewers may remember that by the end of the series, Big has already been married and divorced twice. Later, In the first of the show's spin-off films, the pair are finally married after a brief hiccup when Big leaves Carrie at the altar on their intended wedding day. Five years later, in Sex and the City 2, Carrie feels like they are drifting apart. However, the two renew their devotion once again at the end of the film, settling further into the routine of marriage.
Many fans saw Big's history of commitment-phobia as a major red flag, believing that Carrie was wrong for choosing him in the end and would have been happier with her ex-boyfriend Aidan Shaw. However, a happy ending may still be in the picture for New York's favorite relationship journalist. While Chris Noth is expected to reprise his role as Big (meaning a possible post-divorce fight scene), John Corbett is also expected to return in the reboot as Aidan.
