Who is India Amarteifio, the Leading Lady in 'Queen Charlotte'?

Here's what we know about everybody's favorite young Queen.

After the recent release of the Bridgerton spin-off series Queen Charlotte, India Amarteifio has been a rising star. The actress stars as the leading lady young Queen Charlotte, a German monarch who is arranged to marry young King George of Britain (played by Corey Mylchreest). The series follows the intense romantic journey of Charlotte and George in the beginning years of their relationship, along with the messy politics involved throughout the royal court and the Ton.

As a part of the fan-favorite Bridgerton franchise, Queen Charlotte was already met with much anticipation before its release. Since dropping on Netflix, it has only become more loved. Much of this is due to the strong casting, in which Amarteifio perfectly captured the characterization as the younger counterpart to the older Queen Charlotte we know and love in the present-day Bridgerton world. Amarteifio's stellar performance is gut-wrenching and wholeheartedly believable — a role we hope to continue seeing in any potential future Bridgerton spin-offs.

Born in England, Amarteifio has been acting since she was a child. She attended the Richmond Academy of Dance and the Sylvia Young Theatre School. The English actress has stage and film experience, starring as Young Nala in The Lion King for a West End production, along with holding roles in the musicals Charlie and The Chocolate Factory and Matilda. Other notable roles include her parts in Doctor Who, Line of Duty, and Sex Education. Her leading part as young Queen Charlotte is her biggest role to date.

Ever the acting student, Amarteifio candidly studied in preparation for her breakout role as the titular monarch. She was already a fan of Bridgerton before becoming Queen Charlotte, but she immersed herself in watching other royal shows as they filmed the Queen Charlotte series. Per an interview with Bustle, Amarteifio binge-watched The Crown — a recommendation by Mylchreest.

"Corey actually recommended [that I] watch The Crown because we were doing the coronation scene [in Queen Charlotte]," Amarteifio told Bustle. "In Season 1 [of The Crown], the Queen is going through a coronation, and it was interesting to see how that was done — because it’s a ritual, it’s a very similar experience, and to see the behind-the-scenes elements that they showed in The Crown was actually helpful."

In an interview with Teen Vogue, Amarteifio expressed how welcomed she's felt into the Bridgerton, having the chance to meet Claudia Jesse (Eloise Bridgerton), Charithra Chandran (Edwina Sharma), and Nicola Coughlan (Penelope Featherington).

"I met [Claudia] at a party and she was just lovely and basically just said to me 'If you need to call anyone, please, I'm around,'" she told Teen Vogue. "I met Charithra, who was lovely, and again, she gave her words of wisdom. I think a lot of them, they understand, we all get it, it's really exciting. But the bit that we all need to look out for each other is the mental health side and making sure that we're mentally stable, and they have all been very kind and considerate, and very giving up their time to talk things through like that."

Having already accomplished so much, we are sure to keep seeing more of Amarteifio — this is only the beginning. That said, if we never see her as Queen Charlotte again, there's only one fitting thing to say: sorrows, sorrows, prayers.
