Everything We Know About 'BEEF' Season 2
The hit Netflix mini-series will return with a new cast, new twists and turns, and, of course, all-new beef.
One of the most successful shows at the 2024 Emmys, BEEF's 10-episode first season blew critics and audiences away. The irreverent comedy tells the complicated story of Amy Lau (Ali Wong) and Danny Cho (Steven Yeun) after they face off in a heated traffic incident. As their anger grows and their pasts are revealed, director Lee Sung Jin delivers a complex portrait of the human condition. And even with the story of the feuding pair ending, audiences cannot help but yearn for a second season.
We're in luck: Deadline reported recently that season two will go into production this fall. It will focus on two "beefing" couples, featuring breakout star from May December, Charles Melton, and Priscilla star Cailee Spaeny. Both Melton and Spaeny have confirmed their roles in the project. In discussing the script with V Man magazine, Melton gushed, “I'm very excited. It’s some of the best stuff I’ve ever read."
The other couple is rumored to be Golden Globe winner Oscar Isaac and Promising Young Woman actress Carey Mulligan. The original castings for these roles were Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal, who coincidentally played a complicated couple twenty years ago in Brokeback Mountain. However, reports have stated that this iconic combo fell through, and Isaac and Mulligan will begin shooting this Fall.
Director Lee Sung Jin, in conversation with ELLE, stated, “Cards on the table, we did pitch this show as a limited anthology, so there is sort of a close-ended-ness to the story of Danny and Amy." Jin also told the press that when it comes to the new BEEF, he has "three seasons mapped out currently.”
