In 1988, the comedy film Coming to America starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall became one of the highest grossing films of the year. Directed by John Landis, Murphy plays Prince Akeem of the fictional African nation Zamunda, who travels under the radar to New York with his best friend and aide Semmi (Hall) in search for love.

With quotable catchphrases, Coming to America developed a cult following and a cultural impact long after its release (for one, it inspired celebrity couple Halloween costumes, like Beyoncé and Jay-Z dressing up like Zamunda characters in 2015). The film also featured an all-Black cast, and was the first movie in which Murphy played multiple characters (with some help from the makeup department).

Now, 33 years later, Murphy and Hall return with a sequel to the hit ‘80s film, Coming 2 America. Murphy’s character is about to become King of Zamunda, and he must deal with his grown daughter and his newly discovered son, who lives in New York City, to settle his line of succession. Soon, he and Hall re-embark on another trip back to America. The long-awaited sequel is directed by Craig Brewer, and releases today on Amazon Prime.

The original cast will be returning, plus new additions like Tracy Morgan, Leslie Jones, and KiKi Layne, who plays Murphy's eldest daughter and possible heir to the throne. Murphy's own daughter, Bella, will also be making her acting debut in the film. Thanks to its fan-favorite predecessor and A-list cast, Coming 2 America is one of the most anticipated films of the year.
