Jodie Comer Cast Opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Napoleon Bonaparte Film
In her previous work, she’s already played a villain and a queen, but for her next role, Jodie Comer may be a bit of both. According to Deadline, director Ridley Scott has decided on the Killing Eve actress to play alongside Joaquin Phoenix in his upcoming Napoleon Bonaparte movie, Kitbag. Phoenix will play the lead as the French military leader, while Comer is set to take on the role as his wife, Empress Joséphine. While few details have been released about the project, it's reported that the epic will cover the emperor's rise to power, major battles, and tumultuous marriage.
Scott and Comer previously worked together on the upcoming film The Last Duel, starring Matt Damon and Adam Driver as best friends Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris in 14th-century France. The movie is based on a book recounting the real tale of France’s final trial by combat recognized by law. Ben Affleck also stars in the film as King Charles VI, while Comer plays Carrouges' wife Marguerite. It is scheduled to be released on October 15, 2021.
Despite not having seen her Emmy-winning show, Scott was so moved by her work in the The Last Duel. Obviously impressed with her talent, sources told Deadline that Comer was the director's first choice to play Joséphine. Apple Studios is producing Kitbag, however, Scott isn't scheduled to begin work on the project after he finishes directing his upcoming true crime thriller Gucci with Lady Gaga.
